I'm a little mad right now! I just e-mailed Sony support an asked them if I could use the tele-photo lens VCL-HG1758 that was purchased for my F707 on my DSC-HX400v using a ring to adapt the 2. What Sony support e-mailed me back was that they to answer my question for $5 and then a subscription fee to answer anything else!...Julian

And if you pay the $5 they would give you a "NO" for the answer. The reason? They don't really know if it would work but the "NO" answer is the safe one.

Considerinb the type of questions you pose on UHH,
and the nonsense follow-ups you barf all over those
who have tried to help you, Sony is should've asked
for $5,000 rather than only $5.

I have same camera (and 300 before) as back-up - love it - and I am 90% sure it should work, so only billing you $4.50 ($5.00 x 90%). Or, spend the $5.00 to buy the adapter ring and try it?

But curious why you find $5.00 unreasonable to have an out-of-production, non-approved for the camera, teleconvertor produced over a decade ago researched to get back a qualified, technical answer?

It's called good customer support and companies who provide it tend to keep their customers.

So if I ask GM if my made in China muffler bought in 1990 will fit the exhaust system of my 1953 Chev. and they don't answer or say they will for a fee that is poor customer support?
I have had 5 different questions made of Sony support since 2015 and in all cases they provided thorough replies in a timely manner.

Good for you however the question had nothing to do with Chinese mufflers or 1953 Chev.

Here is how you figure this out..... Hold your auxiliary lens up to your HX-400v and if it focuses and not vignetted then go find an adapter ring. Many times in college I just used duck tape to hold filters in place.

Actually it did, just a more dramatic example.

Agree with you in principle but not in this particular case. Customer support is on the product PURCHASED, not on any add-on you might find at a garage sale.

You are defining customer service much to narrowly.

Just for fun --- How about you asking for directions in a strange city____would you agree to pay cash ($5) for the right answer?
