I am leaving Sunday for a trip to S. Dakota, Wyoming. and Montana. Flying to Billings, driving to Sheridan. We will driving to the Black Hills, The Tongue River and Fort Smith for fishing and Photography around the Big Horn River. Any suggestions for Photos would be appreciated.

Stop by the Little Big Horn Battlefield (Custers Last Stand). The Big Horn river will offer lots of opportunities, more so than the Tongue river. Anywhere in the Black Hills will produce nice scenes as well. But if you can find the time you MUST take the trip up the Beartooth Highway over the pass there, its spectacular and scemery you won't find anywhere else.
In Billings there is Pictograph Cave State Park as well.

Mt, if I recall Billings to Sheridan is about a 2 hour drive +/_ but Cooke City,Bear tooth hwy is in the other direction. Are there local roads from Cooke to Sheridan so they both can be squeezed in?

You don't say what time you will have so that would be up to your schedule. You can take the pass and come down through Sunlight Basin to Cody, then straight over the Bighorn Mountains to Sheridan. Full day trip that way to Sheridan though. But always worth the views.

Just came from that way two weeks ago. Billings kind of sucks for photos, although there is the Moss Mansion. About 25 miles east of Billings is Pompeys Pillar Nat'l Monument, with the signature of Clark (of Lewis & Clark) carved into the side of the pillar. Little Big Horn has already been mentioned but a mile from that exit is Crow Agency, a small Indian reservation town in sad decay but some interesting photos. Sheridan has an "old west" portion of Main Street with some interesting turn of the 1900 century buildings.

Wind Cave is just one of several caves in the Black Hills. I briefly visited it in the early 1960s and found it interesting--I suspect it has been improved since then. I've been to the Little Bighorn Battlefield twice and it's good for a visit. Obviously, if you're in the area, an attempt should be made to see Mount Rushmore. Not too far west of the Little Bighorn is Fort Phil Kearney (kind of off the main road a bit).

I would suggest you head to Great Falls, MT, and swing by the Sip and Dip where you will get some great photos of the local color.

I've driven over the pass on the Beartooth highway. I'd say it's a must-see.

Needles Highway, Custer State Park, and Deadwood in South Dakota all offer good photo ops. Devils Tower is in Eastern Wyoming if you have the time is also pretty interesting.

There is a bend in the river most guides will have you fish that you HAVE to photograph called Traffic Jamb. I would love to see your interpretation of it. If you go all the way to Sheridan the train station turned restaurant and hotel is beautiful, inside and out. If you get off the highway the Bighorn Mountains will offer lots of scenes.

The firearms wing of the Cody museum is certainly impressive for those with an interest. But, don’t neglect the other four wings (Including the great western art collection) nor the sculpture gardens outside between the wings. This is a truly great museum! (Associated with the Smithsonian, by the way)
