I feel almost exactly the same, except I tried
viewing it with all the water cropped off, but
ONLY the water. Suddenly all of the soft water
spots slightly obscuring the land just looked
like rolling foggy mist.

I realize that the water is the scene of your
memories, but the scene "feels" the same, to
my eyes, with or without seeing any water,
and without the water it needs no retouching.
