Mosquito repellent?

Does anyone know of a mosquito repellent that actually works?

Some days the mosquitoes here in S. FL are worse than other days and hinder me from taking any photos, or ruin them, or make the birds fly away because I'm attempting to swat one away. For some reason these little buggers love me.

I have spent literally several hundreds of dollars attempting to find a repellent that works; but nothing, at least the things I have tried, actually do the job they advertise they do.

Please and thank you for any known repellent that truly works!

I use Deep Woods Off. I'm outside a lot. My wife uses Avon Soft scrub, when she is able to go out.

I'll ask my son what he carries we had to carry a canoe down a path that was close to a mile long through underbrush and scrub trees to get it to water in of all places Mosquito Lagoon.... the mosquitos were so thick that there were literally hundreds swarming any area of open skin that they could find, we put on his repellent and none would bite... But I am sure that it was something readily available and something that you have already tried, but I will ask him, it certainly worked for us.

Fabric softener sheets are supposed to work very well. I read it if you put one under your cap or in your belt it's supposed to repel mosquitoes very well.

Asked my son and he said anything with Deet... which is most any mosquito repellent these days so I am sure that you have tried that.... Deep Woods Off I think is what we used that day and It worked very well for us...

Good Luck in finding something, in the mean time wear light weight long sleeved shirts and lightweight long pants... I know that they make a lot of clothing for the fishing types that are very lightweight and ventilated in their designs.... that should at least help some.

we used avon skin so soft in alaska, MEAN skeeters in angry mobs up there.
ook for "clouds" those are skeeters tormenting caribou/reindeer ( same animal)
The Army skeeter repelent was just a tenderizer for the lil blood suckers, Fog the area and use DEET

Mosquitoes hate garlic and after having eaten some in a hot climate, the odour will excrete via your skin pores. Another alternative that can work quite well is to rub a lemon over exposed skin areas.

I agree, anything with DEET in it, the higher the concentrate the better it works. We us Tabard or Mylol here in Mozambique to keep malaria mozzies at bay...

I live deep in the Everglades, as you know, so the mosquitoes here are swarming this time of year. What I use is a Thermacell. I swear by it! Be very careful using any kind of spray or lotion around cameras and lenses. Even the ones with no deet can cause damage. If I am not going to be around my camera, I use Repel 100% Deet.

Your skin is an organ, how healthy is this crap on your skin?

I heard it said, if you can't eat it, don't put it on your skin?

I'm sure that some of it can be harmful. But so can disease carrying mosquitoes. But that's a chance I will take. If you were here instead of mosquito free Canada, you would probably resort to the same measures!
