Thanks for all the reply's! I think I will start with Lightroom and see how that goes.
Right now, I have a picture that I want to edit. In the background is a person making a face ( small area). Can I edit him out in Lightroom?

Go for lynda.com. I've been using it for a few months now and find the courses excellent! Ben Long is an excellent instructor. Well worth the money!

Maybe, but you could definitely do it in PSE 10.

This is an over-simpliciation, but it get the point across:

Lightroom is a program designed to organized and catalog digital images, with some editing capabilities built-in.

PS/PSE is a program designed for editing digital images, with some catalog functions built-in.

I have and use both, but am not an expert with either and am still trying to climb the learning curve.

....There are some things PSE does that LR won't do, and I think sharpening is one of them. The Light Room instructions tell you to take your photo to PSE to sharpen it then return to LR if I remember correctly. I'm sure someone will correct me if sharpening is the wrong missing feature in LR.

LR has sharpening. LR can also take your sharpening preferences and create a preset that you can use over and over again.
But CS6 offers more sharpening options and controls.

Please re-read my post above comparing the capabilities of Lightroom vs Elements 10. Lightroom's file management capabilities are far superior, but so are it's color management, tonality management & noise reduction capabilities. Elements excels in it's ability to clone objects, remove object & move objects around. It is also better for resizing images, adding text & borders. It also allows more creativity with it's many effects. I am very experienced with Lightroom 4 as well as Photoshop CS5 & many versions of Elements including ver 10. My current workflow requires both, starting with Lightroom 4 with final tweaks in sizing using Elements 10. Watch for sales since both programs can be had for just around $200.

Lightroom is aoftware designed to give you a place to import your images into catalogs for each set of images.
Lightroom 4 2ill allow you to make many more adjustments than prior versions of Lightroom
You can use Photoshop Elements as an external editor to edit your photos further if you feel the need do so.
Lightroom and Photoshop Elements as well as PS5 and PS 6 are designed to compliment each other.
If you download the trial version of Lightroom you may find that the adjustments you are able to use in Lightroom might suit your needs as far as post processing software.

Hi,
I have not done any photo editing at all yet. Have access to both programs, which do you all think I should go with?
Also, would it be worth the $25/month to join lynda.com??
Thanks in advance for any advice!

I use Lightroom for 90% of my work but I would recommend starting with PE; it is targeted at those without a lot of photo editing experience.

Lynda.com is well worth the $25/month.
