We have pictures of parents and grandparents on ponies, taken when the photographer came into town. One of the pictures is not a pony, it's a goat. So maybe that guy's pony died also and he just had a good imagination to substitute the goat!

We have an old Billy Goat (14 yrs) if someone wants to start a new "small business", just PM me and you can pick him up!!!

I remember the door-to-door pony photographers well - probably a comment on my advancing years. My late (and great) father-in-law, an adventurous man who was always ready to try new things, did one better. His family lived in the middle of the city, but for Christmas one year, he bought his children a pony and brought it home in a trailer and put it in their fenced in back yard for the children for a few days. Of course, after that, the pony had permanent residence at a nearby farm where he was ridden for many years. We still have all the child-sized tack (white saddle, bridle and martingale) in our attic - it reminds me of his adventurous spirit every time I see it.

Wow!! I have a pic of my DAD on a pinto pony in front of his house. He said they would come around to the houses and photograph them on a pony. Thanks for the history of the Pony camera. I will post in the photo gallery

I remember when I was in my pre-teen years, a few times a year a photographer would knock on our door and ask if my parents would like a picture of their children taken on a pony in kid cowboy gear. He had the pony with him and had outfits in his car. I guess he walked the pony with him to incite interest and kid excitement. We lived in the East part of Los Angeles in a lower-middle class neighborhood. My parents couldn't afford a luxury like that so we never had any images taken on a pony. A few neighbors did. Every kid wanted to, though!

There used to be a place called Corriganville in the San Fernando Valley. It traded on the name of a movie cowboy called Crash Corrigan. I have a picture of me and my brother with him on his horse. Sort of a variation of the pony photograph. Also have an actual pony photograph of one of my cousins.

In the late 40s and early 50s a man(sometimes a woman) would walk around town with a pony on leash, knocking on doors and taking photos of kids on his pony.

... you just never know.

I was watching Barney Miller and during the interview a guy said he had been a photographer. When asked what happened he replied, "My pony died".

Wow are you dating yourself. The last pony & photographer I remember was with my kids about 50 years ago.

By that time I was already too old to sit on the pony.

If you need the extra cash I guess something old could be new again. This may help:

Today it would have to be a *digital* pony.

G'day! You're not alone!
I hail from Boston, Massachusetts, USA and I don't get it either.
I don't remember that particular episode, but I used to watch that show when it was in prime time.

These guys were part of growing. Sadly, the only photo of my cousin that I have was a "pony shot", she died at a very young age.
