I will point out that Sony released an APS-C lens earlier this year - the 18-135 mm OSS zoom. It is an incredible lens, especially when stopped down two stops from maximum aperture.
My wife likes to knit - and tells everyone buying yarn and knitting are two different hobbies. She is addicted to both. When we travel, I take pictures. She visits yarn shops.
Same with me. I love to shoot landscapes. Also, I love working with lenses - resolutions tests etc. Two different hobbies - and each feeds the other. I love it all.

Is there a digital equivalent for 4x5? My guess is that it would require at least 200 megapixels to get the same resolution as 4x5. AFAIK, no such sensor exists.

There is no such sensor but there have been some attempts at making a scanning back that can be used with a view camera. As you can imagine, it is slow, expensive and hard to use.
I'm not sure if they actually cover the entire 4x5 format but there are
Digital Scanning Camera Inserts from Better Light that might be of interest. A bit pricey though.
A more practical approach is to simply capture a large format image and scan it with a drum or flatbed scanner.
