One of my favorite pass times with grandchildren! I'm thinking about a 24-120 for my crop sensor that I had pretty good success with. Meanwhile the 70-200 is decent on a FF. Heavy...

It would work! I was shooting with a 300mm prime and was often too close!

I tested a 24-120 and was quite pleased and I will try it again. The 70-200 is too long on a crop sensor, but pretty good on the FF. I do not wish to accumulate much more equipment. At least that's what my wife said, so it must be true!

If Canon users can't afford the L lens, I highly recommend getting the Canon EF 70-300mm IS II USM. I actually sold my 70-200 L lens because I couldn't justify that lens only for soccer games. Love the one I mentioned earlier and much, much less expensive with good image quality. They sell for around $500 but I found a brand new one from a dealer on eBay for $379 and yes it is a USA model with warranty.

Nice shots. Good angle, I will try that at my next soccer match. Usually when I move down to the end of the field to get good goalie shots the action moves to the other end of the field. I always tell the other photographers if there are any when I arrive, to go down to the other end of the field if they want good goalie shots. Keep posting. Thanks

Nice shots. Needs a little brightness and a little crop on the second one. Keep posting. Thanks

The first image is a brilliant capture of a compelling decisive moment... so beautifully done...

Food for thought... when shooting league soccer typically it is not allowed to stand behind the goal line in the goal area (usually clearly marked) for obvious reasons... as a precaution and respect for not distracting play I never stand behind the goal line for breadth of the entire penalty area...

Thank you for sharing mikeroetex
I wish you well on your journey...

I think you can shoot from the other side of the big penalty box in front of the goal. They told me I could shoot from the outside of the lines to the side lines. Am I right or wrong?? Thanks

Thank you Thomas. The goal line shots are not mine, but another poster. I shot from the sidelines and mine are only seven years old! also, having played the game myslf, I know the goal line gets a good angle, but I don't want to become part of the action!
