Actually, I don't do much marketing and the reason I have been absent from the wedding section is that word of mouth has not brought me any weddings this year. Word of mouth has brought me several events and senior/family shoots so that is fine, however I feel a little guilty giving you advise when I have not followed my own advise.

I hear you, I've been actually turning away business for this year, because we had a total loss of our lake house in a flood, and I've spent every second of every weekend trying to work on the new house as much as possible to keep costs down. People say "you are rich, you have a lake house" The opposite is true, I'm broke, because I have a lake house.

Anyway, I feel funny moderating a wedding photography forum, when I'm turning away business. I just hope I don't shoot myself in the foot for next year. Only have one booked for next year so far, and I am really missing it.

I just keep taking in all the knowledge here, especially on reminders about selling the "sizzle" and it gets my marketing juices flowing. The new house (will be our permanent address when it is done) should be ready for occupancy just in time to be too cold to enjoy it, then I can get serious again. Only issue is, the only internet available there is the satellite internet, so things will be a lot different.

no more 100gb + connections.

OK .... I edited for what I hope is a bit more sizzle ;) https://jerrydallonsphotography.smugmug.com/
Wow, so impressed with changes I almost called you to book my wedding, then remembered I was already married!!! One last comment... you used "capture" EIGHT different times in the opening. Maybe replace a few of them with "reproduce the moment" "record the event" "shoot the special request" or something like that? My work is done. <grin>

Bkyser: Understand "selling the sizzle not the steak" is a very old cliche but still the easiest to explain the concept in just six words to a non-marketing person.

Almost sounds like the remodeled lake house will be the retirement home?

She who must be obeyed is calling it our "forever home" I'm just going to call it home, until my kids decide to put me in the other kind of home and take it from me. Both sons-in-law have their eyes on it already, and we aren't even moved in yet.
