My First Attempt

My first attempt at photographing the Milky Way. A6500, 30 sec, ISO 1000, 12mm Rokinon, f2.8...Wow, getting the focus, even in manual is difficult at best and then making sure your background is free of clutter. Photo was taken outside Kremmling CO last week and shows the Milky Way with Mars shining brightly. Attempted to do this once in FL but we never have conditions worthy of conditions at 8000' in Colorado. Guess I should have checked for power lines BEFORE the sunset, didn't even know they were there until after the exposure. The power lines were adjacent to the Union Pacific main line. Guess I could have edited them out but with the mountains and a few low clouds, just kept it as it is......kinda wished a train would have come by. However I plan to try this again when weather conditions permit, practice, practice, practice.

Great first attempt. All add elements that add to the image.

Thanks Bob, appreciate that, as goes with anything, practice. Too much light pollution and humidity in FL...

Nice image, Blaster! Its a whole lot better than my first --and even my second-- attempt. The power lines don't detract in the slightest, but each of us has their 'druthers.

Thanks Cany, appreciate the comments....better to have things set up BEFORE you go out at night, especially scouting the area, didn't know those rugged public land roads were like freeways out there near the weekends.

Where I live, weekends are absotively, positutely the worst days of a week to wanna go shoot! Expect that's the same most anywhere that's interesting. I usually settle in with a good book or binge watch whole seasons of Gilligan's Island or something productive like that and wait for Monday to finally arrive. Scouting for locations, on the other hand, is usually entertaining.... and is well worth the time.
