In my opinion this is touchy territory that personally screws with my head. Your model appears to be anywhere from about 15 to 22 years of age. My first thought in looking at these was, is she not nude because she's too young? Then of course the mind gallops to the next thought, well if she's that young, why are you posing her so provocatively? Now I'm sure she's older than she looks and of course, these are perfectly legal shots regardless. They are well executed, and the model is indeed attractive. I however would not take them. I have never and will never shoot a provocative image of someone who appears to be young enough to be a minor. That said, I'm as guilty as the next pin-up guy of putting an attractive 30 something in pigtails and a plaid skirt and letting her rock that much cliched schoolgirl look. What can I say, I'm seriously conflicted. I'm not trying to chastise you for this work, I'm just telling you the moral conversation your photos have started in my mind.

My oldest daughter modeled until recently and she just turned 21. When she was a minor there were always photographers who wanted to shoot her in provocative poses and skimpy outfits but for the most part, she shied away from that work and her mother accompanied her to every assignment to make sure no one talked her into doing anything she would regret. Over the course of her short career she made quite a few girlfriends in the business that were her age. When some of them hit 18 they immediately started doing figure work because they could make very good money at it. The one friend that got the most work looked like she was 12 and still does. In my mind the type of images she was helping create were wrong.

She is a cutie! Her friendly facial expressions are excellent. I believe that oftentimes the facial expression is what makes or breaks these kinds of shots.

I will agree she is a "cutie" and does look to be in her teens - but, never having seen a known nude teenager should really do noting but say that she is a "cutie" add to that the fact that, I take for granted" she is not of an illegal age for such poses.

I don’t want to hi jack this thread, but ALL posts so far include comments on the model... yet some feel such comments are off limits. Note that I am the ONLY one who commented on the photos themselves.

No, nothing disparaging the model, but you were strongly implying that she is not suitable for these photos. Age, like body composition, is an attribute of the model.

I was not implying a thing. I was stating a fact: provocative images of someone who could be a minor or who are costumed to appear to be a minor are disturbing to me. I was expressing my own personal cringe factor to these. If anything, my comments were aimed at the photographer, not the model.

BTW, Have you shot any photos this year? It's almost October.

When I say a model is unsuitable for the photo I am also critiquing the photographer, first for choosing to work with that challenging model, second for not hiding the shortcomings and bringing out the best of that model, and finally for choosing to share those -- in my opinion -- less than flattering images.


Actually, I have. I just finished an all expenses paid trip to Tunisia that was "covered" by my 17 photos that appeared in the magazine that I shoot for. I guess you didn't hear about my Tahiti cruise, my trip to Iceland, the Adriatic cruise, or the Danube river cruise... I don't claim to be a fantastic photographer... but my hobby pays the bills!!!

Oh, I forgot to mention... China, Portugal, the Azores, Turks and Caicos, Jamaica, the Yukon and Alaska...

Although the posing is standard and the lighting is well-done, IMHO not your best work in that all the photos look washed out (flat), even the skin, with no "snap" to them. As for the poses she is striking, I see nothing wrong with those as she is an 18 or older model. Would see more provocative ones on a beach by much younger.
