Look, eventually, everything reaches end of life and is not repairable. Canona, Nikons, Sonys all the same. Time to move on.
I am 75 and not ready to "move on" yet. When you spend the bucks that dslr's cost, you don't want an expiration date on them.

I just had my first bad experience with Canon. I was at the beach for a photo surf shoot, and the camera shutter just kept going off. Pulled the battery out to soft reset, no solution. Call Canon service, they tell me the same thing, no solution
They recommend sending the camera in for repair. It will be fixed and I will have a 6 month warranty. I just got it back from being refurbished, fully repaired and perfect in JANUARY! To the tune of $180. Then the see the camera is no longer supported for repair, but they offered $30 off my next purchase through them
I was livid. This is supposed to be a world class company. I expected something more like: We are so sorry to hear about this, let us apply the $180 you have already spent toward your next purchase with us".
The representative did offer a cheaper alternative than new, REFURBISHED, they come with a 6 month warranty. Felt like I have been there and done that
JUST DISGUSTED WITH CANON. BUYER BEWARE

I recently had a problem with Windows XP, and called Microsoft. They said they no longer supported XP. Shocking! This is supposed to be a world class company. Just disgusted with Microsoft.

My first Canon camera was the AE-1 and i still use it regularly, i have always cleaned my camera's ( inside and out ) after using them and also had them serviced regularly, mistreating camera's
and expecting them just to continue working, no matter who the maker is, is a big mistake.
I just get the feeling you have used your camera on the beach in the past, and the beach is a very hostile place for a camera.
Getting back to Canon i have no problems at all with the service i have received from them.

I've never had my AE-1 serviced - I had one of the first in the UK - and it still works perfectly. Never had a problem at the beach either, although I do take common sense precautions.

Many years ago, I called General Motors because my late brother-in-law was having problems with the spark arrestor lever on his 1912 REO; those scoundrels have stopped supporting that model. I'm irate!

Expecting support from 1912 is unreasonable. But support from 2012 is not !!

Not meaning to be knit-picky but that camera was released 02/2010. As mentioned each company has a business model for support. Some are longer and some are shorter and entry level DSLR's are likely a lower priority. I've read recently that Sony has only a 4 year support model.

Technology reaches an logical expiration point whether its cameras, computers cell phones of anything else. At a certain point just about all manufacturers stop supporting very old products. Do you expect your local Ford dealer to get you parts for a 1938 Ford, or even a 1968 Ford?

The OP's t2i was released in February of 2010 This coming February it will be 9 years old. Companies need to make a decision on how cost effective it is to maintain an inventory of every possible part that might fail on a very old model that is used by fewer and fewer people everyday.

Car dealers are required to carry replacement parts for only 10 years. After that time it is optional. However, car parts are a BIG profit margin for most car companies. Not so for camera's unfortunately.
