I agree with you. Some of those replies are terrible. I have been on the receiving end of those insults too and no one deserves to be talked to in such a way. I have gotten to where certain people I will not even read anything by them. That being said, there are also some on here that are professional and filled with knowledge that they are more than happy to share. Thank God for those people. I know where this poor guys frustration is coming from...and then people download on him/her.... can not people just have a little kindness without acting like children...correcting spelling, punctuation, etc?

Canon owns the company for which my son works $53,000 for the past 3 years. All attempts to make them pay their debt have been unsuccessful.
Finally they have decided to take them to court.

Who to pay the debt; and who took who to court???

not defending Canon but they may have not mentioned out of repair is when they run out of the part needed. Call customer service a different number. At CanonUSA head quarters I think it is (800) 652-2662

I think all of the responses have been interesting in their own right. But, the original post was soooo wrong on so many levels. First as pointed out, no camera model, age, etc. Then the post was so poorly written using incorrect sentence construction, syntax, and spelling, that it is impossible to interpret what the intent was. Except! The writer is trashing a fine company (no I don't own stock or a Canon camera) that has the interest of it's customers in it's policies. The writer is using what came to be an entry level camera that is particularly aged. And this was used on a "photo shoot"???

Now, if he was abused by lack of support for current models or some other reason that was legitimate, I would understand his rant. But, to trash a major camera maker over his personal lack of willingness to spend money for current equipment is not acceptable in my opinion.

My daughter has my Canon Rebel XT (vintage 2005). Recently lost the ability to see adjustments to aperture etc, so she's using Auto. And recently purchased a used T2i that works fine. Son-in-law had my next Canon purchase Rebel T1i that is working just fine.
Personally I think Canon cameras hold up very well (from my experience)

I just had my first bad experience with Canon. I was at the beach for a photo surf shoot, and the camera shutter just kept going off. Pulled the battery out to soft reset, no solution. Call Canon service, they tell me the same thing, no solution
They recommend sending the camera in for repair. It will be fixed and I will have a 6 month warranty. I just got it back from being refurbished, fully repaired and perfect in JANUARY! To the tune of $180. Then the see the camera is no longer supported for repair, but they offered $30 off my next purchase through them
I was livid. This is supposed to be a world class company. I expected something more like: We are so sorry to hear about this, let us apply the $180 you have already spent toward your next purchase with us".
The representative did offer a cheaper alternative than new, REFURBISHED, they come with a 6 month warranty. Felt like I have been there and done that

There is nothing wrong with Canon. Things go bad with camera's, you have to except this. You mentioned you were at a photo surf shoot, with salt water spray (you did not specify, nor did you specify what Canon camera you were using, nor did you mention why you got the camera refurbished) and by the way, Canon, Nikon, and Sony do not refurbish camera's that are sent in) Again, you did not specify why you sent it in. You also mention you had it REPAIRED. Which was it, repaired or refurbished?
I do not like anyone coming here and bad mouthing without CAUSE good companies. Although I do not use Canon they have an excellent reputation. You have left too much on the table. You are telling your side of the story. I am sure there is another.
Time to put your big boy pants on or grow up. Which ever you choose, I do not appreciate you airing your dirty laundry here. This is not the place for it. Canon treated you well. Go away.

This is one reason why I still own and use my Mamiya RB67 It is 47 years old and still functions flawlessly.
Yes it is film.
Yes film is expensive.
Yes it still works

You can't expect them to support product that is more than "x" amount of years past the production of the unit. I feel they were very fair by offering the $180 toward a refurb. I have purchase quite a few things from Canon that are refurbished and never and I mean NEVER had one single problem with them. I do have a 16-35 f/2.8 L series lens that they don't support any more. It was made more than 10 years ago and now they are up to version III. I don't expect them to support it when it's that old. Even automobiles have a life expectancy and the manufacturer is not expected to have parts for a model that is more than 10 years old.

Chris sorry to hear that you feel the way you do about the camera company. Look at it from a different perspective, the camera is I am guessing 7 or 8 yrs old maybe? It acted up and needed repair, the repair was covered for 6 months and 8 months later the camera has another issue. Your money would be better spent on buying a new camera kit or newer body. Think of it this way, it is like having a transission rebuilt in your car and you have a 12 month 12,000 mile warranty, the trans goes again at 9,000 and 7 months. The shop will fix it once more and that is it. That is when you cut your loses. If the camera still works take it for a trade, BestBuy will take a trade, or anyone of the camera dealers. You may not get much but it would help offset the price of a new camera.

You have to understand that every camera will wear out eventually and nobody will be able to repair it if there are no parts available. That doesn't mean that Canon is being a meany. It just means your camera is too old to fix. Or, do you think they should go to the expense of making a new part just for you, for a camera that was originally designed for enthusiasts, not for the upper part of the market. It's not economically viable for a T2i. Sorry, but them's the facts, as they say.

chg_canon. Thank you for your excellent advice and unwavering wisdom. You certainly belong on a web site

FYI and to clarify for the non English comprehension and even offer additional insight
The camera was repaired 8 months ago. They also failed to mention that in the future, they would no longer be supporting this camera
Yes, it broke after the 6 month warranty
Although you don't think anyone should care (least of all yourself) I think that a world class company should care

The post was offered to give some additional insight into Canon and their repairs. With a little luck, you will never need the repair services. But if you do, I hope that you get someone who cares as much as you and tells you to put it on the shelf next to your Atari and iPhone 2

Well said Gene I just don’t get it when folks who
Think that Canon should be on the hook for consumer cameras or for that matter a high end camera when 7-10 years old and well out of warranty. The op’s rant is unwarranted in my opinion. I’ve been a Canon user for more than fifty years. Canon is a great company in my book!

Chris - your expectations are over-inflated. Your old camera was repaired, and $180 is not an outrageous cost, though a used one would sell for around $220. They paid a tech to execute the repair, and by offering you $30 they just might be breaking even on the repair cost to them. So what you are asking for is that Canon eat the cost of your repair . . .

And no company is going to do what you expect from Canon. You've gotten some good years out of your $600 camera, so it's time to move on. If it's broken, toss it. Get something else. Don't wait 7-8 yrs to roll it over.
