I sat amongst a group of ravens several weeks ago and was both surprised and delighted that they barely seemed to react to my presence.

They are cool, clever birds, and seem to associate well with humans, especially those who are β€œchillaxed”. πŸ˜‰

Ravens at Petrified Forest National Park have divided up the park into zones and each zone has its own pair of ravens that keep an eye on things and expect "tribute" when you enter their domain. YES, they are quite clever birds. At the Grand Canyon ravens put on quite a show with their aerial acrobatics.

Do they accept trinkets?

They were in mourning for Alfred Hitchcock.

A nice shot Mark, with good detail. Maybe it was saying a little prayer that you might send a little snack its way.

Funny you should say that about a snack. I have been back over there several times since I took this shot, haven't seen a single one. This pavilion area is not getting used as much lately so probably no food scraps to attract them. I had a chunk of dark bread the day I took that shot. Even when held in front of his nose, he just turned his beak. With that in mind, yesterday I googled what crows like to eat. A little berry basket would be good. What did surprise me was reading that they really like peppers. Apparently they don't have taste receptors for heat, and according to the article, they love peppers.

That is correct about taste receptors.
I spike my feeders with a red hot pepper solution to allegedly deter the squirrels with only limited success. It doesn't bother the feathered eaters at all.
