Color Infrared Photography: Comparison of a few filters

I've been practicing with my Full Spectrum-converted camera, a mirrorless Sony a6000 model (my second, as the other has not been converted and is thus, sensitive to visible light only.) "Full Spectrum" (FS) means that the internal filter applied to the sensor has been removed (along with, I presume, the anti-aliasing filter) such that the sensor is now sensitive to near-UV, visible, and near-IR light. I chose a mirrorless digital camera this, my 2nd time around converting a digital camera, because it is able to meter the infrared light itself and focus with reasonable accuracy and has the benefit of live view.

For my FS camera, the external optical filters I've purchased thus far include HM, Hot Mirror, which "reconverts" the camera to visible light-only photography, K590, a Kolarivision bandpass filter known as with a cutoff of ~590 nm (passing orange & red light through along with near-IR), K720, IR light only ~>720 nm, 830, Deep Infrared by Lifepixel with a cutoff of ~830 nm, and SB, Superblue (also by Lifepixel, a dual bandpass filter comprised of blue/purple (visible) light & near-IR light.) If one does not apply any external filter, then obviously, it's in FS mode, which tints the blue sky green (in my experience,) and alters the expected visible light color of leaves. All of the VZ, visible light images presented in this post were taken with an Apple iPhone. None of the images presented here was taken with either the K720 or 830 Infrared-only B&W filter.

Here is the list of filters I applied that correspond to the photographs which follow. All images in this post were taken this past July, the first 8 on the Greek island of Naxos and the last 2 in Boston's Public Gardens. None has been post-processed.

1. VZ / 2. K590 / 3. SB / 4. VZ / 5. K590 / 6. SB / 7. VZ / 8. K590 / 9. VZ / 10. FS

So the A600 is converted to full spectrum, and you added external filters - in front of the lens? How do they attach?

Hi, jerry! Yes, I apply external screw-mount filters to the front of the lens, preferably only one, which is what I've been doing to date. In the thread of my recent topic on September 4th in the MPD section on IR photography, Infrared Photography - Illustration of One Principle, someone mentioned DIY filters, but I don't have the inclination to garbage up my lens on a smaller mirrorless camera nor would I want to use anything so prone to ambient light leaks. I don't understand how one could both readily and easily use a Cokin or Lee filter type with my equipment.

(By the way, the model is the a6000. Sony, I believe, employs the lower case a for their mirrorless cameras and the upper case A for their DSLT/R models.)
