Phone pic editors, I hate them and I love them, but the truth is that because of the proliferation of smart phones, there are a lot of inexpensive and free editors out there. Post your favorite results and please list the app you used.

This photo started as a DSLR image but I transferred it to my phone and used ToolWiz to come up with this version. ToolWiz is a photo suite that liked so well, I actually paid a couple of dollars to register it.

Maybe you could post the DSLR original for comparison so that we can get an idea of what the software did to the photo.

OK, I guess that might be a good idea for any future images as well.

The original image was from a pin-up type set taken prior to the 4th of July, sort of a red-neck 4th tribute. It featured my beat up old pickup, some bunting, the pinwheels and the outfit you see here. There was a second model wearing a similar outfit featuring more red.

Of the single model images shot in the bed of the truck, this is one of my favorites. I had it on my phone and was scrolling through filters and thought the result posted had a 1940's recruiting poster look and vibe.

This latest version is straight from the camera.

I guess the point is while I could figure out how to do this in Photoshop, I probably would never have gone in this direction.

I generally don't care for heavily altered images, but this one is cute...I like it.

OK, that helps to explain the result. The software clearly plays with some of the "edges", and I don't like what it has done to your wife's cute face. It loses the finer detail and hardens the lines a bit too much for my liking and makes it look more like a painting than a photo. But then, maybe that is the intent of the software.

John,

Each filter in this particular app yields a different result and there are dozens. The painting look is what appealed to me with this filter. If you zoom in, it also looks like it was painted on a textured art paper.

Along with this type of transformative filter, where the image is significantly altered, there are processing filters that really just simulate different darkroom techniques. More than once I have transferred an image to my phone and played with it in ToolWiz to decide how I wanted to manipulate it back in Photoshop. The one downfall of this app is it has a maximum output size that shrinks the dimensions of the image, another reason to take ideas picked up in the app and then go back to the original in a real editor and head in that direction.

There is nothing wrong with "playing" with different equipment and materials. In art, one has a whole gamut from charcoal through pencil through paints, for example. We sketch out ideas to come close to our mental image. As you experienced, there are limitations to each style and method, requiring us to go to "programs" that are work-arounds. It will always remain learning experiences when we try new ways.

Interesting processing. After I saw the original I decided I like them both. Good job. Thanks for sharing.

First things first. Great concept and great composition. Your model/wife is such a good sport. Do you bounce off each other in defining your concepts?

I think the processed version is a little too blown out, so I did some pp'ing to tone it down. I'd be glad to share if you would approve.

I agree that the comments should be of the photos and not of the viewers thoughts about the subject. If it causes the person indignation, as Dolly Parton said in The Best Little Whole House in Texas, "the door's that a way!" >>>------->.

Great photos of a very lovely and desirable subject!!!

Just a slight reduction of luminosity.

It's a very subtle change. Honestly, with the original filtered image at the top of this thread and your edit at the bottom, it's hard for me to determine which I like better.
