I've passed this by many times without even noticing it. Saw it this morning but no camera. This afternoon went back out and took these shots. Don't know the year but my guess early 1950s.
Your description sure fits the set, nice.

I would be looking for the details. Perhaps close ups of the chrome molding, patterns in the rust. Have you tried in black and white ?

1953 Pontiac Chieftain - the front bumper is different on a '54
The only emblem I saw on the car was on the trunk. It was a Pontiac. Everything else was rusted out or missing. Like I said I passed by this car many times but never saw it. Must be old age. I'm trying to force myself to be more observant. But at 74 years and just retired two weeks ago it's a new learning experience. Hopefully my photography will improve.

Congratulations on the pending life event! You mention passing this car regularly. Try the following next time:
Get closer. Take the first image as an example. Try a few steps closer so only the grass is in front of the car and not the section of gravel at the bottom of the image.
Using the first image again, try moving to the left and avoid having the blue barrels. If not possible, create some space between the barrels and the car and erase the barrels in post. Mix up your angles. Don't always stand straight and shoot from your eye level. If lowering to one knee is difficult, use the tilt screen on your d5500 and hold the camera at your hip or knee and focus with the screen to get a new angle.
For the second image, again get closer. But this time, try for an angle that avoids the powerlines in the image. You might also take this current image and crop 16:9 for long and and narrow and retaining just the car and a minor amount of space above the roof and below the bumper.
Maybe image 3 would improve by being closer But really, there's too much random stuff in the background from this view.
With the additional free time, watch the weather and try for a visit on a clear morning around dawn or golden evenings with some blue and cloud in the sky rather than the solid cloud. This is a great iconic subject to use for developing skills and confidence and your own personal photography vision. Have fun.
Thanks for the tips. I think that with more time and patience on my part ( which at times I have very little) my skills will improve.
Definitely a 53. We had one of these. I was 10 years old when these babies were new.

My family owned one of these when I was a little boy. It was "yellowish" in color. Actually, it was my first car...hand-me-down.
My father had a 55 Pontiac...it was great car.
