Sony 18-135 E purchase

Wife just ordered a Sony 18-135 3.5-5.6 for my A6000 for my upcoming birthday. Reviews look pretty good on it, and it appears to be about the perfect size for travel. I am thinking I can ditch the 16-50 and the 55-210 and just use 1 lens. I have found that I hardly ever use the 55-210 and the 16-50 is not a favorite.

I tried one at a store in Denver and it seems to be a nice compliment to the A6000. Not too heavy or bulky and balances nicely on the camera.

Good for you! I have that exact same combination and I remain amazed at just how good it is. I've owned it for about 4 months. I took it on a cruise to Alaska and it was great. The OSS - optical steadying - really works well; a nice extra.

I always try to use the lens stopped down 2 f- stops from its maximum aperture and that has worked out very well for me.

I also own several primes - the Sigma 30 f 1.4 and the Sony 85 mm f1.8. Both are sharper lenses - but not that much sharper.

And yes, you will never bother with the other two lenses again once you use the new one.

Cheers

Bob Locher

I predict you are going to be a very hapy campper.

Post some pics when after you've tried it out. I, and many others here swear by the 18-105 F4 G. I have been considering switching to the 18-135 for travel purposes, but I would like to see some real user shots first. I have the 16-50 and 55-210 as well. I like the 16-50 for when I want something I can slip into a jacket pocket. The 55-210 has been gathering dust almost since I got it. It is very slow at full zoom.

Hi Bill
If you are interested in selling the Sony 18-135mm I might purchase it provided it works with the Sony NEX 5N.

I bought an A77m2 with that lens. I found it great for travel. Not too cumbersome to carry, flexibility, fits in bag well. Great combination, no need for lens changing.

Haven't decided to sell the kit lenses yet. Need to see how the new one works out. If it is as good as I think it is going to be I will likely be selling both.

Yes, it is nice to be able to use just one lens. The Tamron 18-200mm is my G-to lens for my A6000, although I also use the 16-55mm quite often.

Can you use the flash with this lens? My 18-105 is too long, leaves dark spot on the pictures unless you have it zoomed out at least half way.
