I recently entered the local fair for the first time. I entered 7 pics and 2 placed. I'm posting all the pics here and let you determine, if you will the winners. I'm curious to see if you all choose the same as the judges. I placed a 2nd and 3rd. Please feel free to critique any/all. I had posted at least one of these on the Hog before for critique and made some changes based on those critiques and others.

manofhg, major kudos are in order, not just for the quality of your images but also for their variety. I think they are all drop dead gorgeous but would guess that #4 (the flower) and the last (that beautiful critter with the beautiful lighting) would be the faves. Really impossible to pick a winner.
Thanks for sharing
I like three, four and five. The shadows and look on the puppy are great but red sign detracts from a very nice image. However I don’t have a clue what a judge would want. They seem to be all over the lot in deciding a winner. Congratulations on your photo entries. /George

I am going to guess #2 and #6. But as gsmith mentioned - it all depends on what the judges are looking for - Congratulations!
1 and 5 would be my choices and also the dog if it was just the dog in the photo...
and as previously stated not knowing what the judges would be looking for makes it a little harder for us to choose...
I would go with 1 & 4 although 2 kept catching my eye ..
I like to see what the judges picked as the winner .. you got 2nd and 3rd ... by looking at the judges pick for overall winner .. it would give me an idea of the judges eye ..

Thanks. The dog is my daughter's shepherd mix rescue dog (there is a much longer story with this dog, but glad he's my granddog and that I get to see him occasionally). The flower was my first attempt at macro using some extension tubes I had just purchased. I'll come back later and tell what the winners were and my own impressions.

Thanks for looking, commenting. My wife would have liked the dog pic, "Behind the screen" more if the whole "Beware of the dog" had been visible. Some think that is better to have just the amount that it has there.
The Milky Way or titled "The 'Way' I saw" was a first attempt at capturing stars with a new lens and camera. Out of about 3 shots that I was considering, that was the pic of family and a few friends.
Most of my shots, like the "Water Lilly" and "Valley Forge Memorial Chapel" were shot in and around Philadelphia, PA this summer.
I'll tell more and the winners after more time has been allowed for folks to choose.
I like #1 and #6 as well. What I have learned in thirty years of entering photos in my local fair is that there is no possible way to anticipate what a judge will like.

If the dog were just the dog, not anything around it, you wouldn't know he was behind a screen and watching. The beware of the dog idea would not be implied as a reason for him to be behind the screen, not that a screen would do much to stop him if he really found reason to get out. Also, zoomed in, you can see the screen in some areas.
Thanks for commenting. I'll reveal the winners a little later.
