There are a lot of knowledgeable people on this site. They have helped my identify various unknown to me flowers in my garden, and a dragonfly. Her is a large wasp looking creature buzzing around my garden. What is it called?
It looks like some kind of Dirt Dauber.
mollymolly is correct...it appears to be the Blue Mud Dauber (Chalybion californicum).

Very good, Molly. These guys usually prey only on black widow spiders. I have a photo from YEARS ago of their nest - opened up. Nothing but widows in there. Nice to have around.

That I did not know. When I moved into my camper and started cleaning and renovating it, the cabinets well loaded with Dauber nests so I guess that is a GOOD thing. Thanks for telling me this.

It depends on the species. But the Blue Mud Dauber has a penchant for the ladies with the red hour glass.
