Walking through the house, this caught my eye. A moment.

The curtains have a cool pattern to them and the light, dappled as it is, is intriguing; but I really want to be able to see what's hanging on the wall. It's a mystery.

I agree with Erich. Love the curtain; right side is a little too dark for me.

Have you considered a b&w version?

Really nice Bob. I love the curtains. The texture and light reflecting of the folds of the throw on the chair is just beautiful. I would snuggle up in that chair with that book.

Thank you all for your comments. I was enlightened (ahem) by the BW suggestion because my whole first attention was on the warm sunlight. Anxious to try the BW, BECAUSE I think it might set a different emotion in play.

srt101fan or any others, note that I do not mind if you show me what you mean by editing my photo.

I love what you did with the B&W, Bob! I liked your original but this one has a lot more impact for me.

WRT editing, I'm just starting to learn post-processing, so I'm a long way from editing someone else's work!

The BW is very interesting. To me it gives it a Film Noire feeling. I like it and I am a big fan of BW but in this instance I like the color version better. It just has a richness that the BW is missing.

I'm really liking the comments. I'm glad the work reaches people, and the responses broaden my understanding of what gets communicated.

Although the b&w version is okay, I much prefer the color version. I really like how the color version expresses the warmth of the late afternoon sunlight, which is unfortunately mostly lost when rendered b&w. Also, the use of complementary colors is very appealing.

Very nice Bob! Very successful. Here I feel a lot is lost in B/W. I think that adding light to the shadows, within a certain range, is equally pleasing, but by no means preferable.

Yes, the colour has it for me Bob - and I imagine someone has just put the book down to go and make a cup of tea. Perhaps the same person spotted the shot on the way and picked up a camera instead? I wouldn’t change anything here, there’s nothing wrong with a bit of mystery.

Like the shoot, but I would crop out the book. It takes away from the image.

At first I felt the painting on the right and the books at the bottom were distracting, but the more I look this over the more I feel everything's just as it should be. I do like the color version better. The blue chair seems to compliment the light from the curtains perfectly.
