Aspect Ratio 16 x 9

I have hundreds of really nice sunset pictures I took with my cellphone and a Canon SX60 HS, I used 16 x 9 aspect ratio so it would fit my computer display. Now I'm trying to start a business selling prints but apparently, this isn't compatible with any standard frame matt combination. Does anyone have a suggestion of what to do?

Buy a matt cutter and make your own matts to fit frames in the sizes you want.

Crop the images to the size you want. You will lose a little bit of the images on the sides for those in landscape orientation, or on the top and bottom for those in portrait orientation, but there is no other choice unless you force the image to fit a different dimension, in which case you will distort it.

Yes. Print them on 18x12 paper. Pad the canvas in Photoshop. Add borders or titling or text about the scene.
The same concept works for any standard size paper, mat, and frame...

The white part of the below pic is an example of "padding" per burkphoto, or "adding canvas" in my PS Elements 
It now fits an 8x12 frame.

Frames and mats for non-standard aspect ratios (even square) will cost about 50% to 100% more than standard sizes. Standard sizes can be produced in economical quantities.
What's more, standard image sizes (5" x 7", 8" x 10", 11" x 14", 16" x 20", 20" x 30", 22" x 32") don't even use a standard aspect ratio for the image .
Cutting your own mat solves part of the problem if you can fit it into a standard frame.
The goal should be to keep the mat width for the top, left and right about the same and the bottom a little wider. Otherwise it might look a bit weird.

Custom framing is the way to go. Chain stores like Michael's and others do a good job for a reasonable price. I knew a photographer who had lots of framing done, and she always got the thin, black frames. I think she called them "museum frames."

Linda, I was scratching my head on "padding" myself, so thank you for the explanation (and thank you Burk for such a great idea). I think this will help me a good deal.
Just to be certain I fully understand, Linda it appears you have basically centered the print at one size onto a larger sheet of photo paper which is a standard size for standard mats and frames. Simply enough. Or am I missing something? Thank you both (Linda and Burk).

Note that because of the odd crop I did to my photo, the white space at top and bottom is a little thinner than the sides.In Elements, there is a quick and easy way to do this (I learned on UHH!). I can post a PP Forum how-to, if you're interested.

Burk an Linda give good advice....
I might add.......your ratio is 1.77/1. If you have a printing company print it, they will crop it, not necessarily to your liking....if you print to 12x18 you will still lose a little. You can custom print and custom frame without loosing. I would (I do) crop it to 1.5. You could do 1.6, but that would be smaller. 1.5 is peffect for 12x18.

The bane of the photograph seller is the varying proportions of frames and mats 8x10, 8 1/2x11, 11x14, 16x20 all have different proportions requiring cropping and trimming.
