Thanks! I assume the plaids still denote the clans although in this instance that may not be the case. Would love to go there.

They do. I don't know what tartan the guys at the back of the picture are wearing but I think the red one is a red Stuart plaid which kinda falls into the generic category along with a Black Watch plaid. The local Royal Mile shops carry a variety of designs for tourists who basically choose what appeals to them because most of them don't have any clan affiliation - I've never found a Scott tartan in any of those places. If you ever get the chance, Scotland is a wonderful place to visit - I'm starting to make plans for our 7th trip, hopefully next September.
