Sony RX10 iii Focus / Sharpness

I recently acquired a RX10 iii from someone who upgraded to the iv. I have a a6000 that's my main goto vacation/travel camera but was intrigued by the 24-600mm equiv lens of the RX10 iii. My issue, real or not, is with the focus system. Here are a number of shots I took about a 1/2 hr ago. Is it my imagination or are these a little soft? Since getting the camera, all I've heard about is how impressed everyone is with the phase detect method in the RX10 iv, so I may be doubting what I have. But.... the price was right (though not as good as the one currently being offered on UHH for sale). Anyway opinions are welcome, particularly with regard to recommended aperture priority and shutter priority settings. IMHO, I have too many options to consider. The file names are the 35mm equivalent focal length. Metadata should all be there. Thanks!!

I don't see any softness in them. You also may want to check the sharpness setting in the camera, if it has one, though I don't really see any problem in the downloaded shots, even when I open the Downloads and enlarge them further.

Where was the camera focusing in the first shot? That s the only one that looks soft. Review the setup for desired focus spot. I have an RX-10 original and it is very sharp.

It's focused on the brick area about 3-4" from the trim board. I use flexible spot (I think that's the term), non-continuous, pre-focus off. The continuous focus drove me crazy as it was always searching for something to focus on. If I moved the focus box off my intended target, without hitting a focus lock, I sometimes lose the target altogether. It's almost like my Canon 7d2 where at times I think I have too many options.

The only sharpness setting is in the "creative mode" and I don't use that mode. Here's another shot where the square 4' tall pole in the middle is what I was focusing on. Maybe, I'm being paranoid.

I downloaded the first pic and it looked fine when I expanded it. I think you will get used to it as you expand the range of photos you take.

I own the camera for a while and like the press it got it is amazing. The issue for me is sometimes at long zoom
in darker conditions is hunts for a while. It is known. It is very sharp at its closest and farthest good for a crazy zoom.
Like your samples I have shot all kinds of 200mm 400mm 500mm etc etc. I seldom get to 600mm which I found
good as you have shown. Yes the RX10 mark 5 has better AF system. And mediocre touch screen.
My experiences with this camera have been nothing short of amazing. I have told this before my son was on stage
at a newspaper marketing award panel. Just got the camera and my son said Dad dont run around the room but
I need video for my startup biz. So a sat stage right first row at angle. I shot full shots of stage. MC of panel.
The moderator over at a podium. CU's very close to speakers talking. The video and audio from the PA was great.
Shot at NASCAR parachute jumper landed in the track. I was shooting straight up and didn't know if I got the shot.
It came out perfectly. I believe you will favor this camera often. Use it.

I would suggest that IQ on this camera can be the lens. It has Zeiss glass. I like G glass better than Zeiss glass. Zeiss glass is good, but G glass is better.
