How about a combination lens cap and hood i use 2 step down rings 49-37 and 37 to 30.5 and a film cap from fuji. it sits snuggly in the 30.5mm hole. being white and translucent its not bad for setting white balance and the 2 rings make a great little lens hood. i've been able to use it on 50mm and 70-210mm full frame lenses. without vignetting. It wouldn't be great on every lens but its worked well for me.

Right but if they are out hiking they should. I tell my wife all the time to be practical instead of stylish.
