The hoards of people are missing. Went to the Beach Café on Anna Maria Island yesterday to take advantage of their unlimited pancake and sausage breakfast for $5.99. Sunday being the mid-way point in this 3 day Labor Day holiday usually means this beach would have been packed, not so on this Sunday. As some of you may know the west coast of Florida has been battling the Red Tide for the last couple of months. The beach side hotels, motels and restaurants have been hit very hard. Manatee county has removed almost 241 tons of red tide related debris from county parks, canals and beaches. The death toll on marine life is almost unbelievable. The red tide is a single cell organism known as Kerenia brevis.
On this Sunday the beaches were clean of dead fish, the water looked good and no odor at all.
Just thought you might like a little background concerning the attached images.

Maybe Gordon will wash away the red tide?
My heart breaks for everyone there. We had the Seaside Inn in Bradenton Beach and went through a red tide outbreak about 15 years ago - we took a gut punch financially for about 3 weeks - not near as long as this has lasted. :(

Very nice, Don. It's a shame about the Red Tide. We are lucky that we are far enough south and east, our Gulf and backcountry waters are clear and the fish are happy
I've never heard of red tide. But then, I grew up in the Midwest and now live in the desert!
Your location says "A Sunny Place". For those of us who don't know where Anna Maria Island is...where were these photo's taken?

They were taken in Manatee County Florida. Manatee County is on the west coast of Florida about 40 miles south of Tampa and about 20 miles north of Sarasota. Hope this helps Ched49.

We visited relatives staying on Anna Maria when I was a child of 12 in the '50's. Had my first camera with me and pics are in my old album. Learned to wear shoes all the time after nearly stepping on a tarantula!
