A neglected courtyard

I haven't done much computer work on my own images for some time, and yesterday I pulled this one out and got into it. I didn't alter the saturation or the color space. I welcome your thoughts about it. Its sort of an overgrown and pealing geometry.

What a terrific photo op. Where/what is this?

I like all the different textures. After pondering for awhile and wondering about your choice for location of left edge of frame, I decided I really like the composition too. It's not the obvious choice (at least in my mind), which gives an edge and added enjoyment.

I wouldn't mind a tiny bit of color saturation, but more than that, there's something about the gravel and stepping stones (or boards?) that I don't care for. Maybe if that area was slightly darker? I guess it's that I like all the rest so much that I'd prefer to not have that section so distinctive. On the other hand, maybe the contrast adds to the interest. Think might be better to not scrutinize, and just enjoy!

This is in front of a big industrial building that is still called "firing circuits" but which is now renovated as studio space for artists. Very rustic. I have been over there when they have open studio events and its close to where I live, but in the last many years I have never set foot in that area, or seen anyone else do so. I was thinking I was going to have to name this "abandoned courtyard" but thought of "neglected". I will be sure to set foot inside next time I go by.
I almost never add saturation. Not that I haven't tested the slider many a time. What looks to you like boards are flagstones. They are used a lot in New England for patios and walkways. I will add the original sooc here so you can see what I started with. The color attracted me as well as the geometric forms when I shot it. And the vines.

Thanks for all the info and more insight into your decision making. I heard an interesting comment once in main discussion forum about "over-saturation" - someone asked the OP if they had cataracts. Certainly a valid point, and wasn't written in a snarky way.

We know everyone views UHH pics on different devices (many uncalibrated, like moi), and too often I edit in a bright room, so even for my own "colorful" tastes, my posted work can end up to be more than I'm comfortable with the next day

Lots of nice textures in this one. Good job.

I think I can see what Linda is getting at, and perhaps there’s bit too much here. Think about cropping quite a bit off the left side and focusing on the wall and vines. That might help the photo.

But, as I said, I do like it.

Good eye on a scene that I am sure countless people have walked by and never gave it a second look. Personally I would have concentrated on the vines crisscrossing the arched window. But that is just me.

This is only one of many I took here, and some of the others were compositions just as you describe. This one I pursued the composition of the pink wall. Thanks for your input Matt.

You got it right. Im sure most folks dismiss this area. Its got a "leave me alone" feeling to it. The vines were what attracted me to it in the first place, and I focused on featuring them as I got started. Moved around, I became more tuned into the architectural forms. This is one of those. Haven't worked on any of my others yet.
