Several times recently, I imported pictures from a folder on my computer into Lightroom. Lightroom found them, realized it had never seen them before, and then let me import them. Strangely, I did not see them on the screen after the Import, as I usually do. "Developing" them was impossible. I did a search using the name of one of the images, and it appeared only in the original folder. I renamed them and imported them again, and I was able to do a search and find them on my drive. What gets me is that this happens only occasionally.
I can live with this occasional blip, but it's perplexing. Any idea what's going on here?
I've not encountered this particular issue. They should automatically appear in the Develop module after import, and the source selector at the bottom above the strip should change to "Previous Import". The same list should also contain the last several imports. Do they show up there? Perhaps in sync errors?

I have not experienced this, but I got fed up with LR creating 'extra' folders on import. I would tell it the name of the folder I wanted, say "2018-03-20 flying elephants", and set it working. I would end up with that folder created, and *another* copy created beneath it, with the same name, and *this* is where the photos were put.. This started happening a year or so ago, but had never happened before. I tried all sorts of combinations with the import parameters, but nothing made a difference.
I finally gave up, and now instead of using 'copy' to bring the files in from their current position, I copy them myself, and use 'add' on the import.
