Canon EOS R (full frame mirrorless), full specifications leaked

Ahead of Sept. 5 expected official announcement of the new EOS R, the specs for the camera have been leaked. The format suggests this was lifted from the PDF user manual for the camera.

https://www.canonrumors.com/canon-eos-r-full-specifications/

That's answered some of my questions, such as....

Why have leaked photos shown three lens adapters for the camera?
1. EF lens to RF mount adapter.
2. EF lens to RF mount with drop-in filter drawer (great idea!).
3. EF-S lens to RF mount (camera has an EF-S/APS-C crop mode, allowing it to use the crop only lenses too).

I knew about the first two, but not the third.

The RF 28-70mm f/2 lens will be a bit of a beast.... over 3 lb. and 95mm filters! But, hey, that's what an f/2 aperture, full frame zoom has to be! (There's a size comparison between it an the more modest RF 24-105mm f/4 here: https://www.canonrumors.com/a-size-comparison-between-the-rf-24-105mm-f-4l-and-rf-28-70mm-f-2l/)

What batteries will the camera use and how many shots per charge will it get?

It will use the same LP-E6N as my 7DII and 5D-series cameras. (Also can use LP-E6 with a few minor limitations.)
Shots per charge can be as low as 330 shots (in low temps, using electronic viewfinder with no power saving efforts)
Shots per charge can be increased to as much as 560 shots (room temp, using rear LCD in Eco mode)
BG-E22 will be available accommodating a second battery and providing vertical grip and secondary controls.

It will have both an electronic shutter AND a mechanical shutter. Not sure the details and function of this.

Over 5000 effective AF points will cover nearly the entire image area!

It appears to use SD memory cards. I was a little surprised.... some 4K capable cameras call for cards like CFast (or XQD in the case of Sony/Nikon).

It appears to have only a single memory card slot (there's no mention of dual slots or the controls used to set them up). That's another surprise, but we don't yet know if this is intended to be a lower price, lower spec model or not.

"AF point: Maximum 5,655 points"

Will it be possible to see the subject with all of them displayed in the viewfinder?

Good observation! It's getting to the ridiculous stage with the autofocus points race. If someone activates all of those points, there's no telling what your camera might focus on. It's likely to pick up on something other than your main subject.

From the gitgo, this has looked like an updated 6Dii - basically an "enthusiast" camera - that has gone mirrorless. Certainly it is a "new and improved" version of that camera. Canon may, in their apparent habit of being a little slow on newer technologies, be waiting to make sure their concept of what a "5D5/RF" should be like, and whether the mirrorless "fad" is really happening.

I’m yawning like I did for the Nikon ZZs.

It appears that both Nikon and Canon have decided not to challenge Sony in favor of hanging onto their base. Of course this is less of a problem for Canon as their base is so much larger. At least they have both gotten into the fray.

Canon's lens lineup looks pretty good so far.

I do think that some pros may decide that neither company went far enough and will either not switch to mirrorless yet or will simply start to add Sony to their tool kits.

I think I can wait ONE MORE day to see the real specs, and then there's NO guessing on ANY of the stuff rumoured to be.

To be sure, I'm not holding my breath for this to be ground breaking stuff either.

Or possibly another player... A surprisingly significant group of portrait, hybrid, and nature photographers are using the other (non-Canikon or Sony) brands of mirrorless gear. Many low budget filmmakers, advertising agency producers, TV station news/sports crews, trainers, and nature photographers use Panasonic GH series.

DSLRs still have a place. Don’t worry yet!

Funny how when Nikon does the same thing there is no problem with too many points.

Hopefully price will drop a little on the OLD 6D... Newfangle Smangle, If I can't get it done with 6D and L or equiv. glass it ain't gonna get done. Mirror up on my carbon fiber and shoot for the moon on stationary subjects. BTW, my M1 with 75mm 1.8 is the bomb for isolating my dogs running around the yard; there is a place for everything... happy shooting !
