I do a lot of bird pics and there's little chance for multiple exposures. The sky was bland a couple of days ago but I tried .. um ... whatever we're calling it when we open one RAW file and then process it in Photomatix.
The first pic is a juvenile white faced Ibis.
The hummingbird was sharpened and enlarged. They are so small there's not much that can be done with the composition .. just press the shutter and hope they haven't flown off.

Pseudo HDR seems to be the accepted term. Well caught, snails pace. Your trigger finger obviously doesn't work at a snail's pace.
