I have not used any of those lenses, my present 18-200 VR is made by Nikon. During last year workshop held here in Miami by Tamron I saw many images from the 18-400 and they look good to me. Understand that when you have such a long zoom range many optical compromises need to be done so quality suffers.
I am sure any of those two lenses will do its part if you do yours.

I use the Tamron 18-400 on a Nikon 5500. I like it and keep it on the camera nearly all the time for flower photos and photos of Amish Country and farmers. I also took a number of butterfly photos at Hershey Gardens and some insect photos near home. It is sharp and the colors good. I give it high ratings. It is a bit stiff to zoom. At 400mm it is not quite as sharp as at lesser zooms but still very good.

I had the 18-400 on a Canon 7d Mark II. I didn't care for it.

I used a Tamron 18-400 lens on a Nikon 5300 this summer on a land/cruise to Alaska this summer and loved it. On a trip 2 years ago I had a Nikon 55-300 lens and it just didn't bring the animals in close enough but the 18-400 really did the job for me. I keep it on my camera just about all the time. Love it!

Tamron 18-400 went.on Nikon D5300 in March and stayed on camera through trips to Ireland and Annapolis. Wife and I share camera and neither of us has any complaints. Zoom is a little stiff but not an issue.

No regrets over purchase. Would buy it again.

Recently my Tamron 18-400 is my go to lens on my D500. Light weight and allows me to shoot macros, landscapes, and wildlife without changing lens

Thank you all for the GREAT input. So if I have the extra bucks I should go for the 18-400?

The Tamron 18-400 if far superior to the 18-200.
But be aware its larger and heavier compared to most other superzoom lenses. It's over 3" in diameter with a 72mm filter thread, almost 5" long at 18mm and around 9" long when zoomed into 400mm, and weighs in at around 25 oz. It also has some degree of weather sealing.

I have the Tamron 18-200mm on my Sony A6000, and I like the results. Before selling my Sony 55-210mm (I think), I did comparison shots, and I didn't see any reason to keep the Sony.

I have an 18-400mm Tamron. Fabulous for me. I use their 150-600mm for long shots.
It allows me to carry one lens for 90% of my shots. I use a Nikon d7200.

I have a Tamron 18-250mm on my Canon T2i. I use it as a travel lens, and chose it because of its small size and light weight. Results seem to be fine, especially if you stop down to about f8 and avoid the extreme ends of the zoom range. Note that this lens does not have VR (but I compensate with higher shutter speed and ISO).

My research indicates that the image quality of the 18-400 is about the same, but with VR, and significantly larger and heavier.

Good luck.
