Very nice photos...I usually dive in the south west Pacific...Fiji my favorite. These photos show that on Long Island we too have some beautiful flora and sea life worthy of photography. Thanks for sharing. Love the sea horses. I still use the Nikonos V. What system are you using ?

I'm using the Olympus Pen-E PL1, Olympus housing with a Zen dome port and a Sea & sea 110a strobe. I love this camera, it does a great job and is great for travel. I dive in New York waters most of the time from March until December and the amount of life here is incredible.

I had no idea you could see these species this far north. Great shots, too!

Rich, very nice photos, far too many people do not realize that the Common Atlantic Seahorse has breeding grounds in NY Harbor. There is also a large breeding colony just east of the bridge and left towards Hewlett Harbor. Seahorses come in a variety of colors, the common color being what you have in your photos, they also have White, Orange, Yellow and Black. The amazing thing is that the male hatches the babies from his pouch after the female inserts the eggs from her Ovipositor. Very interesting to see the gyrations the male goes through hatching the super small perfectly formed baby Seahorses.

Great shots!! I had no idea there was so much underwater wildlife in N.Y. When I thought of people diving (for entertainment) I always thought Caribbean, Hawaii, etc. That is so great! Our employee is from Long Island and he never said anything about it, but then he's not a diver so...duh! Anyway, that's great and keep'em coming.
