Sony ... have they given up on the SLT design, or are there new models coming?

I have a pair of Sony bodies an SLT-A65V and an ICLA-77ii. I chose Sony over a real camera company like Nikon or Cannon because I had a Minolta 9Xi and an 8000i body, and over 40 lenses.I even purchased 6 of Sony's overpriced lenses and a pair of HLVF-58 flashes. Which won't fit the A77ii without an adapter and an overpriced HLVF-60 which overheats after a few shots and shuts off. I thought the natural choice was to switch to Sony to be able to use all the lenses I owned and I would save. Just to have Sony abandon the A-Mount in favor of an E-mount. What a joke, Sony shows their true colors again. Start mourning, the A-mount it will go the way of the Beta-max. All the Sony mirror-less guys be prepared in a few years you will have the same problem. That's what Sony does. Look at what happened to all their other products. I am soon about to switch and I can assure you it wont be Sony.

And BOTH of those are very fine cameras, Polonois ... particularly, the a77 II ... I have one, too, as well as its predecessor - the a77. I also went looking for an a65, but found it had been discontinued, in favor of the a58, and later (now - just recently introduced) the a68. Since it's a fairly new introduction, don't bet on Sony abandoning this line, anytime, soon ... but with them getting $3-4G for each of those over-rated a7 series MILCs they sell, I don't blame them for putting the SLT line on hold, for a while, - do you? ... Sony NOT a real camera company??? ... They're very much real - as real as Canon and Nikon. And, Nikon just released their Z series FF line, to compete with Sony's offerings, so they MUST think Sony is real enough - don't they?

I have an a77 and after renting one last year, want to get the a77ii...can't yet afford to get the a99ii. I don't want to go e-mount - I want to keep my lenses and don't want to get an ugly adapter.

Keep aiming at the a77 II, Plane ... forget about the a77 ... even though it's older, it has the GPS, and now sells for 1.5x times as much - where you can find it ... but, apart from having only 19 focus points, as opposed to the newer model's 79 ... it's, essentially, the same camera ...

I don't blame you ... who wants to use an adapter???

But, between Minolta, Konica, and third-party lens-makers (Tamron, Sigma) there's plenty of glass around for A-Mount Cameras ... just look around ...

The a99 II is ALSO the same camera, to hold - in spite of having a FF 42mp sensor, inside (plus, a pile of other goodies) but, it's around $3200 ...

Can't buy the a99 anymore, new, but you should be able to find a used one, or two - if you look around ... if you want one, that is ...

But the original a99 only takes 5 FPS. I shoot a lot of aircraft-in-flight (my kind of BIF). It also has more focus points. Using my a77 along with the a77ii and switching lenses (also rented a 70-400g2) the a77 out-focused every time - (faster and more accurate, I mean). Some of my OSH '17 pic are on my FB page, mostly all shot with the "ii."

Yeah, 3 months after I bought my A65 they were discontinued. Typical of Sony.
I hope your correct about being on hold however, I don't see it.

Yes! Tokina has indeed made A mount lenses. I have an A mount Tokina 11-16 mm and consider it an excellent lens even with it's slight tinge of chromatic aberration at 11 mm wide open.

Oh, don't get me wrong, Plane ... I'm not advocating the older a99 ... the a77, a77 II, and a99 II - are infinitely better cameras - they're all the same body, too ... and ALL of them return 10fps, easily ... because of the fixed mirror ... but, some prefer a bigger camera - saying "bigger is better" - and if you're an SLT advocate, in that case - it'd be better to go the a99 route. Personally, I can't see it. If I wanted to go FF (which I don't) I would pick up an a99 II - a vastly superior camera, IMHO - to all other FF cameras, out there - and because it's exactly the same size as the a77 and a77 II - both of which I already own - I know I could handle it ... and the 42mp sensor really entices me, but I just don't have the $3200 it would cost me ... so ....

It was a lovely little camera - swish-looking ... 24MP ... quiet, too - so I understand ... the newer a58 is fairly noisy ... shame!!!

Plus, the newer sensor is only 20MP ... still - it's a fine camera ... hard to go wrong with it - makes perfect pics, every time ...

I have no idea whether I'm correct, about Sony putting the SLT line on hold, or not ... but it is a calculated guess ...

The a99 II seems to be doing well, as does the a77 II ... but the mid-range a68 - not too sure about ... it's a tilting LCD and only 2.7" ...

Those two lesser features (than the a65, et al) may have spelled its doom ... ah, but it DOES have a top-deck LCD!!!!

Yes, you are right, PG ... I remember seeing one, once ...

But, now - Tokina only markets lenses for Canon and Nikon ... such a shame!!!!

It does have CA when used wide open, does it, PG? ... ouch!!!

I wonder if Tokina fixed that in the later 11-20 ....

Still ... there's plenty of glass out there, to fit a-mount cameras .....

Yup ... I've noticed, Larry ... Tokina seems to have no interest in making lenses to fit any brand other than Nikon and Canon ...

Perhaps, it's a wise decision by Kenko - overall ...

Yeah, I hear ya, Bull ... am headed that way, myself. I was hoping my a77 II would be it, for me, too ... but, I guess I need something like a D850 ....

Unless ... when the Canon EOS 90D is released, in a couple of days ... just might go that route ...

Don't get me wrong ... the Sony SLT designs are fine cameras ... but ... I do have one or two reservations - low light, for one ... AF not perfect, for two ...

The mad rush to be the first on the block with something new ... is sort of passe, for me, too ... my GAS days are over!!!!

Still ....

Polonois ... were those "E" lenses you bought to use on your Sony SLT bodies? ...

If so - did nobody tell you that won't work?

The adapters you can purchase (LA-EA3, LA-EA4) are for allowing use of a-mount lenses - on E-Mount bodies, such as the FF a7 series, and the a6000s.
