I own a Canon SX20IS that I love because of the versatility. My question is this. Why, with all of the technology in camera technology tody, can't someone put a larger sensor in one of these so called Super Zoom cameras. I am not a perfectionist, I just like to take and look at photos and I realize that as good as I think some of mine are, that the clarity of a larger sensor would be way cool. Thanks
No idea, but you might want to ask that question in the discussion section.
Welcome to the forum.
Happy to hear you are from New Mexico...a beautiful state.
I assume the sensor you are writing about is the LCD screen on the back of the camera. I use a HOODMAN. I am able to view the LCD screen closer and without the ambient distracting from the screen. That might work for you.
Nope, I'm talking about the sensor inside the camera that actually records the image. SLR Cameras have a large sensor, four/thirds a bit smaller, and the point and shoots have a wee little, and obviously cheaper size sensor. The primary advantage of an SLR Camera is the large sensor that makes a far superior and higher detailed photo versus the tiny sensor that is strained to the limits with the higher pixel counts everyone is infatuated with.
Give me a larger sensor in a versatile Super-lens camera and I will be as happy as a pig in a puddle.

Welcome Steve from New Mexico, by Steve from North Carolina. Super zooms use smaller sensors, because sensor size, and lens size go hand and hand.
If you had a super zoom, with a fairly large sensor your 400 - 800mm lens, would be four feet long. How would you like to deal with that ?. :)
