The photo is actually a advertising campaign for a new Olympic Sport they want to introduce at the 2028 Olympics in the US. The sport consists of loading the individual with over 100 lbs. of photographic equipment and then participating in the following events.
1. One hundred yard dash.
2. Five mile marathon, during which time the photographers have to stop at 13 different venues and photograph each, scores will be for actual time plus a score on the photographs themselves.
3. 200 yard high hurdle. Scores will be tabulated on actual time and how much equipment is still on the participant when they cross the finish line.
4. Pole vault, this event speaks for itself.
'GAS" is a serious (financial) problem. Just when you think that you have enough camera stuff, you make the foray once more into a camera store with your own explanation that you are 'just looking around'. Well, my looking around thus far in the past 8 months, has resulted in purchases of two used lenses, both in excellent condition (Nikkor 20-35 f2.8 and 70-200 f4) and a new camera bag to tote this precious stuff! I would be close to that guy in the photo had I not sold off previous GAS attack outcomes.
He looks like a Transformer!!

For the un-initiated, what does GAS stand for??
It's Gear Acquisition Syndrome. A problem commonly found in (*insert hobby passion here*), but particularly photographers who find part of the fun is in acquiring new toys, er, equipment.

Thank you - is the known cure or preventative vaccination?

I don't know, just looks like the average dude taking his "walk-around-bodies/lenses" on a little stroll around the block in the morning!
As in go forth and multiply your camera equipment? Or as in Even a fourth of that is too much?
My sympathies are with this guy....I struggle on a daily basis with GAS
Thanks for those links. The little girl was my favorite.

Sorry, but it's a chronic condition that can only be controlled, not cured!

He not only has acute GAS but also a double hernia....
Bar, is that a model VII Cylon from Battlestar Galactica, or Arnold Terminator, AHLL BE BACH? The fellow loaded down in the photo looks a bit like the character in 'Lost' who was also a main character in 'Person of Interest.' Glad I don't have to pack that around in my old age. In a bands we had in the mid 70s, we'd developed quite a following in local area. We thought it would be a hoot to dig out all gear and instrument every band mate owned that was in use or in storage, haul it all to the gig and set it up, even though we knew a few of our regular fans would see that somethings weren't on. It took 4 large vans and a couple of trailer loads to haul. After setting it up, knew it was something we'd never do again, without a full road crew. We had speaker cabinets stacked up to the ceiling, and the line of gear ran about 40 feet across the whole width of the building. Yeah, impressive, and same as cameras, we had classical Music GAS.sv
He may have lost his lease for his store and became a street seller?😎📸
