I’ll second easy canvas. I’ve had dozens of canvas prints made from 8x10 to 20x30” and have always been pleased.

Have seen some reviews of photo printers. My notes say MPIX, WHCC, ProDPI, Bay Photo, H&H Color Lab. To stay away from are CG Pro Prints, Adorama Pix, Walmart, Shutterfly.

I just had one done by CG Pro Prints, and it is beautiful. I had never used them before.

Be very careful because if you do a gallery wrap where the picture is stretched and can be seen on the edges you will loose a couple of inches of your image when they wrap it. If you take a 16x20 image and have them do a 16x20 canvas with a gallery wrap they will actually make it an inch bigger all around so the face of the canvas will be the 16x20 and the extra will wrap around the edges. This will wrap some of the image around to the edge and may wrap the top, bottom, and side of the image around the edge possibly cutting off someones head or feet or maybe eliminate someone from either end of the group by wrapping them around the edge. Make sure you see a preview of what it will look like BEFORE YOU ORDER IT!!!!!

A good gallery wrap (even printed fro LR) does a 1 or 2 inch mirror of the edge of the image so none of the image is lost. The edge is reflected on the side of the frame.

I use Easy Canvas, they do an excellent job, have the best prices around and even have collages, etc, to do creative designs with.

Question re the resolution, sharpness..... what is the breakpoint in terms of minimum resolution of a photo for canvas prints? Is there a loss of sharpness apparent due to the texture of the canvas? Have been thinking about getting a couple, but wonder about loss of sharpness.

Thanks, Lou

I have used them for about 20 different prints. All were excellent, and they are constantly having sales with great prices. Different options for frame depth and they do not increase the size of the print for the gallery wrap. They replicate the outer edge of the shot for the wrap. You also have options for the color of the wrap. They are located in Austin, TX.

I have done several canvas prints myself. It is a simple process. Have the print you want on canvas printed at your favorite source (I use Costco). Buy the blank canvas at a store such as Michael's (they usually have multiple packs on sale). Coat the canvas with "ModgPodge" thoroughly, place your print on the canvas, and be sure that it evenly adheres with no wrinkles (I use a paint roller to roll over the print - works really well). After the photo has dried on the canvas, coat the top of the print with "ModgPodge" evenly, making sure you get the coating out to the edges and smooth is out. Take another canvas of the same (or larger) size and place it on the wet surface and press all around the canvas (again, a paint roller works really well for this), for about 30 seconds to aminute, and then remove the second canvass. The wet print below will absorb the texture of the canvas. Once it dries, it really does look like you have professionally mounted canvas print. I have done about a dozen photos like this and all have turned out well, and draw lots of comments about where I had them done!

If you have a Photo Reflect account, you can get canvas prints and canvas mounts from them. I actually prefer the canvas mounts as they're on real canvas, not the plasticized canvas.

Good advice. However, there are canvas printers who offer gallery wraps that do not cut off the edges and print the full image on the face of the canvas with black, white or whatever color you choose for the edges, or "pixel wrap "edges that duplicate the pixels of the image on the edges -- you just have to check out what type of wraps the provider offers. The other alternative is to put a border on the image yourself before submitting it for printing. The other thing you need to check out is what stretcher frame thickness the provider offers. If you are not going to put the canvas in an outside frame (which I don't), I suggest using 1-1/2 inch thick stretcher frames as opposed to 3/4 inch because they look better and also prevent warping. Quality-wise, all of the different providers I have used are good, although I have had to have several reprinted because of problems with production issues, but they have always reprinted at no charge (for both reprinting and shipping with no need to return unsatisfactory canvases) so I end up with great-looking canvases.

As for best prices, check providers' specials and discounts and Groupon because they always have great discounts for a number of canvas printers -- I have done many canvases from multiple vendors using Groupons and the prices are substantially less than either Costco's or Sam's Club's. Another company to check out is Picaboo as they are always offering great discounts for pre-purchased coupons.

Costco does a great job and store pick up is free and delivery to you is cheap. They have limited sizes however, but if you can fit into those they are great. You can get a black edge or white edge option if you don’t want some pix wrapped around the edge. On some images it looks great.
I started also using PicturesPlus. Quality is great too, basic difference I see is the framing (gallery wrap) is a bit nicer. But that is the back of the print. They offer unlimited sizes, free pick up at the store. They do ship but don’t know the cost. They also offer mirror, full wrap and colored edge wraps, many colors. Nice people to work with. Aloha
