Does anyone have or had this lens, and if so, what's your experience with it?
Thank you.

To which of the several versions are you referring?

One of the sharpest lens in its class!

I have this lens and have used in on the following bodies D300, D700 and D810. It is a great lens, very sharp and generally do not use the AF since it'™s a macro and the focus is the most critical factor. You’ll love using it. Just remember that on your camera body, the field of view will be similar to a 160mm lens (35mm equivalent). If you are enamoured with the 105mm focal length, you’€™d be better served by the Nikkor 60mm f/2.8D

Thanks, I had the 60mm and sold it because the of the shortest focal distance.

It was one of the trio of lenses I purchased with my first Nikon. I still have and use it. I have seen no reason to replace it.

I have a 105mm 2.8 D. Folks are correct; one of the sharpest lenses the film era ever produced. Another was the 60mm, which I think you should have kept. I did, and I still find good uses for both.

Yes, I had the even older Nikon 105 mm macro f4 lens. I used it over 30 years ago in the operating room for taking pictures with my Nikon Photomic TN F. Wonderful lens. Still use it as a non-CPU lens in my Nikon 7100 with excellent results. Amazing macro and portrait lens, even today. Lens is still in perfect condition.

Very very good lens, Bought for my 8008s 26 years ago -a much have for macro. AF only with today D7000 and above. Those with in camera auto focus motor. But I manually focus the lens anyway with my D7100, D40 for close up

If you think the 105/2.8 lens is a winner, try the old 105/2.5 version. One of the few old lenses that I still use regularly today.

The "Portrait Lens." To many pro photogs during the 80s and 90s this was their go to lens for intimate shots of people. Had one. Loved it.
