Point 2 makes no sense. The latest electronic systems always deliver improved performance over older ones. The new mirrorless have all the latest innovations.

No, the latest electronic systems always deliver improved financial performance ($$$$, at least that's the intent) over older ones for their manufacturers. Any actual performance improvements are incidental. Manufacturers will sell anything and everything that they can (including total s**t.)

I am fully well aware of Moore's law. That has nothing to do with what corporations try to sell to consumers. Does anyone remember the Ford Pinto that Ford knew had the potential to explode in a rear end collision. That condition could have been fixed for an additional $6.00 per vehicle. Ford management at the time chose not to spend the $6.00 and they knew about the problem.

Oh and Moore's law has nothing to do with what software does on a given computer. I see constant stores here on UHH of Windows 10 problems.

Don't you think either Nikon or Canon would love to come up with a scheme to charge your credit card a monthly fee and deliver nothing in return? Of course they would; as would just about any other corporation on the face of the planet. Commerce is about corporate bottom lines not about, sadly, making the customer happy; that, if it happens, is just a by product.

I have compassion for you with that sad line of thinking. It does not seem to make you happy.

And all successful company managers will strongly disagree with you. All know that long term survival depends on satisfying customers with high quality products and services.

Your story anout the Pinto fuel tank was a public relations disaster for sure. Yes, there were a few crashes with Pintos where the fuel exploded. There have been with many other vehicles as well. In retrospect the actual Pinto rate did not exceed those of other cars at the time.

We just had one crash/fire with a semi that wiped out a bridge over the Interstate. No $6 item would prevent those.

Do you recall the “news” videos that used ignitors to set off the fuel in similar concerns for pickups? That is the kind of press that made the Pinto a PR disaster.

Even if it were true condemming all managers and companies on the foolish acts of one or a few isn’t logical or meaningful.

And I feel sorry for you. The era of customer service seems to have gone out the window with the era of "big data" from where I sit. "Caveat emptor."

No reason to feel sorry for me. I am happy with most products and services I buy. I feel most businesses are trying their best to satisfy all of us.

I am particularly satisfied with my camera equipment and the big three retailers I get it from: ABC.
