I remember a discussion in one of my photography classes back in 1967. We discussed what to do to cover up the noise of a camera when shooting a wedding.
The instructor said to clear your throat when shooting with a Leica. One student asked about when using his Nikkormat and the instructor suggested
knocking over a chair to cover up the mirror flap. I was using a Bronica Deluxe (early model) and asked how to cover its loud noise. The instructor
suggested knocking over the pew with the family of the bride in it.

My Pentax "Q" has whisper-quiet leaf shutter.
That's one of the many things I love about my "Q".
It's my stealth camera!
Always prefer the whisper of a fine leaf shutter and the vintage 35mm Retinas have a nice little "snick".

Mirrorless cameras don't have mechanical shutters????

Some have both electronic and mechanical shutters. The default is to use the mechanical shutter for a specified range of shutter speeds with the electronic shutter used for speeds outside that range. There is an option to use the electronic shutter all of the time. I see no reason that DSLRs could not have the same feature. What mirrorless cameras do not have is a mirror.
