Consumers concentrate on the kinds of photographs that are supported by modern cameras rather than on aesthetic or artistic qualities.

We see so many images of birds in flight, macro and closeup, sports, panorama, HDR because the current technology makes possible photography that was difficult to accomplish in the past.

It ain't necessarily so. Some aniline shades of Danish stamps issued in ~1880 haven't faded and I believe that aniline dyes were used for them.

Interesting. But very few people hang their stamp collection on the wall.
Light is the culprit.

According to Ralph Meyer, "Some fade out completely and some are semi-permanent;
for example, those used in house paints will generally last the few years the paint is
expected to live, and those for printing inks will last as long as is usually required.
When kept from too much light the better ones used for printing inks are quite
adequate." *The Artist's Handbook of Materials and Techniques*, Revised Edition,
(New York: Viking Press, 1962), p. 41.
