While in my blind in my backyard yesterday I noticed I needed to do a little cleaning. Spider webs and spiders in the corners! Good thing my wife or daughter weren't with me. They would have fire bombed the blind. They don't like creepy crawly things of any kind near them. They might have even warned me first so I could get out, maybe.
At the close range inside the blind and being enclosed the flash just over powered and washed out everything so I tried no flash. My preset ISO limit of 6400 maxed out and this is what happens when a black spider, anti-light coating on the blind fabric and reinforcing tape are all greatly underexposed. I got a metallic gold spider on a tan background with reddish tints. This tells me the "black" dye used to make the fabric and tape started life as a very dark red.
This is a two shot stack since one photo had the body focused and the other had some of the legs focused. Not a really good shot but maybe I can start another CA gold rush if enough people think we have spiders made of gold.
80D 100-400L @ 400, 1/100 @ f/7.1, ISO 6400 hand held so close I manually set the focus for the near limit and then leaned backwards until the spider came into focus.
Great job with what you had!

Thank you
I also like to tell you how fine a capture this is, I do not know which kind of spider this is, but it shares its shape with that of the black widow, so it may be not best to just handle it like usual! Just a thought!

Thanks
When I first saw it I thought it was a Black Widow - we have lots of them here. But it had some pale whitish stripes on its back. Probably something even worse.
I will clean the blind with a can of spider spray and a broom. Step one = spray spider(s) and wait Step two = sweep down with broom and then scrape off on trash can Step three = spray the mess scrapped off again before closing trash container

Very good work, Bob!
Thanks But I will confess, except the PP work it was just dumb luck.
Really unique result of the play of light that makes it look like a mechanical metal spider.

And made of gold - spread the word, we can use the money spent by the treasure hunters who will join the rush to my area.
I just noticed I left off the "HSS" between ...no and flash... it should have read ...no HSS flash... And I copied and pasted to a total of 4 posts between UHH and Face Book.

Always take credit for the hits because you know you will be blamed for the misses.
The spider hardly looks real, Jerry. Wonderful shot!

OK, but I hope I am not blamed for the misses, I'm married.

Thank you, I think it looks more like a piece of jewelry.
Except the web strands and the stripes on the spider's back everything in the frame was black or dark charcoal grey. I probably will never be able to duplicate it. I know the exif shows no flash, and I took some with HSS flash, some with ETTL flash and some with no flash. I can't remember but I thought this one was with HSS turned on but I lowered the SS to 1/100 so maybe the flash did go off but didn't register - just washed the image out to almost monochrome.
