George Harrison and sitar player Ravi Shankar Held concerts to aid refugees from the civil war between East and West Pakistan in 1971. This is one of those refugees that found safety in India. Many of those refugees still live in the shacks/slums they were first settled in, this one is in Durgapur, West Bengal.
This photograph beseeches one to feel empathy. I get just a hint of camera presence and wonder. I would love to have some kind of twin lens reflex digital camera, so that that element of eye contact would be made between the photographer and subject. For my comfort. Anyway, this one penetrates deeply.
I really like this and think it's very well done. It presents the subject very well and includes the environment so that we can understand it better.
alive with texture and color and story and so many things so different, and yet to me he feels like he could be the guy standing right next to me. Thank you Graham for bringing the world to my fingertips where I can look into his eyes and know we are all the same.
