Plus, using the Nikon adapter, you will lose additional coverage using DX lenses, more than what is currently lost mounting a DX lens on a DSLR FF camera because of the fact that the adapter acts like a teleconverter and lessons the angle of view. ie. if you mount a 20 mm DX lens on a FF camera the angle of view lessons to about 30mm, so, mounting this same 20 mm DX lens on a Z ff with the adapter, that 20 mm lens could end up closer to a 40 mm or even 50 mm angle of view.

Where do you come up with this misinformation at????
DX lenses on the Z bodies with the FTZ adapter will yield EXACTLY the same field of view as mounting a DX lens directly to a full frame DSLR. This isn't rocket science its simple optical formula.

I thought the purpose of the adapter was to place the lens the same distance from the sensor as it is on a DSLR. Mirror or not should make no difference.

I am pretty sure you would be incorrect on that one. The adapter is (at least should be) made to keep the focal length of a FX lens - if the adapter acted as a teleconverter it would NOT. Thus - putting on a DX lens you will get the same change in "focal length" as you get when mounting a DX lens on a FX DSLR - a 1.5 factor increase in "focal length" along with some vignetting (varying degrees depending on the DX lens)

Being redundant again - As stated before in various ways...The new camera will have a new mounting system so your older lenses will not fit natively. I have read that Nikon will sell an adapter though.

I currently own a Nikon D5300. I am considering upgrading to a D7200 or D7500. My question is will my current lenses (Tamron 18-400 and Tamron 10-20 wide angle) fit on the new Nikon Z line. I also have the kit Nikkor lenses with my D5300.

Thanks!

Nikon has an adaptor that will fit your Nikon F mount lenses.

The OP lists only DX lenses.
The new mirrorless cameras are full-frame.
Not a good choice.

But, like the D850 you will get a 19+ MP image, very close to the D500. Then you give yourself room to grow. If you by a DX camera now and decide to go full frame you need to dig deeper into your pocket for new camera and lens.

Or you could be happy with your DX camera and not have to dig for anything. Not everyone needs to upgrade.

The adapter is discounted if you buy it with the camera.

While you can mount any F-mount lenses, you cannot auto focus lenses that do not have a self contained focus motor. AF and AF-D lenses do not auto focus.

That is another way to look at it.

I would start with buying a few good FX lenses-used is fine.
(They work well on a DX camera.)
Going to need them anyway.
The wide end is taken care of with the 10-20 on the current DX camera.
I think the potential for noticeably better photos on the existing DX camera is higher with better lenses.
Wait and see how the new mirrorless cameras perform before buying one.
There might be a glut of used DSLR’s on the market you could pick up for a song, assuming you have a good voice.
The monkey wrench in this whole thing is, will the newer lenses work even better? Probably.
Then one might want to upgrade to those.

I see a few advantages with the mirrorless.
Quiet: I shoot events and some things need to be quiet.
In body stabilization: low light levels hand held and video w/o a tripod or monopod is going to be better.
Video capabilities are much better.

Other than those, I’d stick with a dslr.

A winning lottery ticket might be a good investment.

Personally, I would do nothing to prepare for the purchase of a Nikon Z until I actually saw a production model in the hands q7of a regular customer. Nikon has cancelled releases on short notice in the past, and they can do it again.

"Nikon regrets that it is delaying the sale of the Nikon Z6 & Z7 due to technical issues.". Maybe the Z8 & Z9 will be the first Z's sold.

For those who are old enough to remember, "If you think this new Osborne II is great, just wait 'til you see the Osborne III!"

Thanks for your reply as I have been considering the d7200 or d7500. BTW, my Tamron wide angle is a 10-24. It gives me some great shots! I love both of my Tamrons as I carry both everywhere.

War is no joke, I have been there and documented it,and my late dad served in WWII in Europe.

But if you would get a laugh out of this satirical take on the launch of the Nikon Z camera, then watch it.
