No I did not. My maternal grandmother traveled 15 miles to buy her eggs and I would watch as they candled them.

When I was a 16 year old, I worked on a soda truck, servicing several ma & pa grocery stores in Rochester, NY. We would carry wooden cases of the glass bottles down flights of stairs in these corner groceries, dodging the aging cheeses hanging from the ceiling. These cases were extremely heavy and we would pick up the empties and carry them back up those narrow stairs. It was brutal work, but there were no cans, plastic bottles or soda fountains in these little places. Of course, doing this very manual labor, I was in the best shape of my life, but that was almost 60 years ago. Times and my aging body have changed dramatically since then. Plastic bottles are killing our oceans and the mirror is killing my ego!
