Hi! I have a Nikon N80 and an F80 that have lived in a tamrac bag for years. I just took them out and the backs and sides (the pleather parts) are sticky. I tried cleaning them with windex and then with alcohol. still sticky! any suggestions to unsticky them?
I'd like to know too. I know some rubber things tend to get sticky as they grow old.
I use alcohol and lots of it and spent about an hour or so.
It would fix it but it doesn't look like new. It would be smooth.
Have you tried "Goo Gone"? I've not used it on my camera, but I have on other things and it does take away the stick feeling. I hope it works.
hadn't thought of that! just might work.

I've seen it eat some things, so approach with caution.

They made a 50's movie like that. The Blob.
Try a light application of baby powder. It does not remove the decomposing plastic/rubber, but it does reduce the tacky feeling.
I find that petroleum distillates (charcoal lighter fluid is the cheapest) get rid of the goo from sticky labels, tape, etc.
I have never tried them on a camera, and think that it may dissolve the glue holding the covering, so test it first.
Also, be sure not to use it around flame or lit cigarettes.
WD40 seems to do a lot of similar types of activities.
Kurd Kutter makes an adhesive remover that I used many times when I owned a sign company. I don’t know how it would affect rubber or leather, so try it on a small area if you decide to use it.
the big problem is you keep them in a camera bag and they get no air circulation this brake down the rubber I keep my cameras on a bed with a towel over then

Yep that is right, If you are in no hurry you can just keep them exposed to air for a couple of weeks and it seems to eventually goes away.
