Backing Up

I'm curious about what you backup. I use SyncTory (free) and backup individual folders, like My Files, My Pictures, etc. It's faster this way, and I don't have to backup the entire disc, anyway, since it's not all essential, or it's duplicated somewhere else.

I use a program called Memeo - came with the Buffalo external HD I bought some time ago. It initially backs up all files you create and then monitors what changes and updates the backup with the changes. You can also modify the selection to backup what you want, for instance the data file of some program which does not "qualify" as a file document. I've recently expanded my external storage and depend upon the RAID configurations for backup

I have two external drives. All my data is on the first external that runs all the time my computer is on. The second I only turn on to backup or retrieve.

All I ever do is copy / paste to the backup folder - works for me regardless if it's photos or other material.

I looked that up, and unless it comes with a drive, you have to buy it, so I'll pass, but thanks for the reference.

I have been using SyncToy since you recommended it (or someone here on UHH). It works outstanding. I also recommended it to a friend and now he uses it too.

Someone here recommended it, and I passed it on. You have to be careful about Left and Right, or you could wind up erasing most of your files. For me, Left is always the "donating" drive, and I always use Echo because it seems like the safest choice. Unlike many other items I have gotten because they were recommended here, this one was free!

I run 2 drives on my PC, C: and D: - I wrote a program to backup my C: to my D: and my D: to my C: - it does this automatically at boot. Only backs up files that have changed since last backup.

I also backup to 2 external drives, I do that by hand and about once a week.

The program is available in the 'Resources' section of UHH.
