How I changed most of my friends to Buffalo Sabre fans.

I've been a die hard Sabre fan since 1970, not to many of us in this neck wood, only one other person I know of in my circle of friends who admits to being a believer, and he's a closet fan.
Anyways yesterday in the weekly meeting of the “ Boys Club” at our favorite watering hole, more or less BS central. The subject eventually got to hockey, which is a for sure, we all started talking about the up coming season. Which team has improved, which have declined. I added to the conversation that I thought the Sabre's had made some very good moves in the last couple years and should make the playoffs this year. Of course I get the usual, “You have been saying this for forty years bs” which is true.
So my response was,- (don't know where it came from)- but what I said was “ I'm not going to die till the Sabre's win the Stanley Cup!”
Well it took maybe 5 seconds and all the boys became fans- starting chanting “Go Sabre's Go” . I don't think they were sincere but it was a good chuckle.

I would certainly hope that it was all in good-natured kidding.

I'll never be a Sabres fan.
Unrelated to the Sabres. Years ago when my son was 12 he was pretty sick and in Dallas' Children's Hospital. At one point he was being transported to have a test done when he passed the Dallas Stars in the hallway. He told his transporter to stop (rather yelled at him to stop) and ended up getting the Stars to sign a pennant for him. That year they won the Stanley Cup.

Right on, I think 99% of all sport professional would do this, give something back.
So when Dallas won the Stanley Cup that year 1999, guess who they beat- The Buffalo Sabres.
Hope your son is doing well

Thanks, Swede. After an open heart surgery at that visit and then at 25 when he had his aortic valve replaced, he's doing well.
That last game was something!! I stayed up until 2 a.m. to see Brett Hull make the winning goal in the 3rd overtime. The goal keeping throughout the entire playoffs was astounding. I esp. remember Belfour vs. Roy.
