I wonder if Sony will ever sell the Awesome Lens on this camera separately? Just got my M4 and I am In Shock!!

I once said on this forum that the lens on my RX10m3 was better than the sensor and got a lot of pushback. Your comment suggests you might agree with me. Wouldn't that be a great lens on a a6500 (except for the reduced apparent focal length, of course)?

I agree! I’d love to be able to use that lens on my Sony a77ii instead of the massive 70-400mm G which requires a tripod and isn’t nearly as fast! Wonder why?

The lens we are discussing is only 220 mm, not 400. The reason is that 220 looks like 600 when the crop factor multiplier is applied. The multiplier for your a77 is 1.5 but the multiplier for the RX10 is about 2.7 or almost twice as much. Your 70-400 has an equivalent reach of 600 mm on your camera and so does the RX10.
I have used that 70-400 lens on an a6000 and that combination is fantastic. But the RX10's handling, flexibility, fast (F 4.0) lens and so on are a joy to use and the pics are not bad either!
I think the full frame lens and the APS-C sensor give better IQ but my percentage of keepers is way, way higher with the RX10.
I want it all but I can't have it all.

The RX10M4 is a small compromise, but an easy one, given the results. I love mine.

Ive just put my d810 up for sale . Couldnt justify keeping both and the sony ended up winning...Ill miss the iso performance of the d810 and the ability to do massive crops but the Sonys IQ is just so brilliant.....

Hey a6k, Thanks! That helps me understand the physics involved. Just got my RX10 M4 and the images I can get at 600mm beats what I can get with the 70-400G on my a77ii easily! I’m so amazed with this RX10M4 that I’m considering selling all my Sony a77ii equipment. I thought the a77ii would be the last camera I would own so I bought Sony G lenses and the RX10M4 kicks ass over almost Everything! I understand the sensor is smaller but when you can get sharp images @ 600mm cropping is less demanding. Am I missing something or is this Bridge camera as good as I think it is for nature photography and me saying good bye to my beloved a77?

First, you are most welcome. I enjoy being of help to UHHers since I get so much help from many on this forum.
Second, I think it is a very good camera for nature and wildlife. What is lacks in high ISO performance it makes up for in its amazing versatility. I'll PM you a link but I don't want to set off a lot of critics because the camera is very good but myself not so much.
