Hi, pleasure to meet you and I just purchased a Nikon D3100 and am reading the manual to try to get a start in the photo business as a freelancer, lots of competition. What I am looking for is way to get the full manual which is over 200 pages long.

I downloaded one from the Nikon site, a PDF
file but somehow they blocked the ability to print it. The manual that came with the camera is only 68 pages long.

Any ideas will be appreciated. thanks Walter

Hi Walter,
Browse your local bookstores and flip thru any you find on the D3100. The manuals that come with today's cameras are very technically written and hard to follow along with, but you may find a book on your camera model that is written in a more reader friendly version at a place like Barnes and Noble or Atlantic Books. A good website for general info and easy to understand manuals on different camera models is: shortcourses.com but unfortunately a short course manual for the D3100 isn't listed as of now. Check back at that site once in a while because the fellow who runs it is always adding things. Al

Try making a copy of all the PDF text and paste it in a new Word document, you should be able to print from that document,

I took mine to FED EX and they printed it for me. So frustrating not to have a manual you can take with you as I find I have to refer to the manual more times than I care to admit. Never needed a manual with my old 35mm Nikon N50. I cannot understand why the companty does not present the new owner with a printed manual. Mine was 237 pages!!!

I just bought the D3100 for Dummies, and I love it. It has told me things about my new camera and made it easy. I was given my D3100 for Christmas and I have been trying different things without reading anything. Now I am reading and this book has been the best so far.

First look for magic lantern guides by silver pixel press most camera stores carry them. I would check also with either adorama.com ot b+hphoto.com. They are probably the two most trusted names in camera stores in New York City. I found the magic lattern guides to be more usefull and they are small enough to keep in your camera bag. Third option is to go to the Nikon website and see if the manual is available there. Also you can try this website lincink.com and download the manual if they have it from them. I used them when i was looking for an old manual for my Nikon F and they had it. Finally google camera manuals. I did that yesterday for a church member who has an old cannon and wanted a manual. There are a lot of websites for manuals. Herbert Keppler had a great colum about the massive increasing size of camera manuals in popphoto about 5 to 10 years ago.

Hi, I downloaded the manual for the D5100 to get some information before I buy one. Got the same message but they said to enter (I believe) your serial number of the D5100 you have and you can print the PDF copy. I think there are two different PDF copies. One you can't print and the other you can with the serial number of your 3100. Give it a look again.
