Oh, oh. You got me going. In a nutshell: You can't go wrong with this one. I shot with one extensively for a bit and I loved it! I also like the fact that it is weather proof. I was thinking of buying one but I had other priorities for my budget. I bought an a580 instead. I also know the quality of the a77 because I am a previous Sony owner and I am completely satisfied.

My suggestion to you would be to buy the a77 body only and purchase the 18-250 Sony zoom for an all around walk around lens. It will cost just a little less than if you buy the camera with the kit lens. You do know also that Minolta AF lenses work on this camera as well? This will save you from buying the expensive lenses that are out there now. For instance, I have a Minolta 28mm prime that I bought for $30.00 and it is better than the Sony equivalent.

Thanks Tainkc. My current camera is the Konica Minolta 7d which has given me many years of great service but like us all getting a tad tired. Thats what prompted me to look at Sony as I have a few good lenses that will fit. Like you say not cheapest camera (even for body only) but looks to have a good spec and feels right in the hand, I have just not had the opportunity to do any test shots hence me asking all you guys for your thoughts.. Thanks again for replying

You are most welcome. A couple of more things; even though I am not much into shooting video through a dslr, I was very impressed with it in extremely low light conditions. As a matter of fact, there was a review that some one shot night time video in your neck of the woods and it was in a light rain( naturally in your area) and it handled the reflections superbly. Also, I was really checking out the ELV. Since I had one on my Fuji bride camera, I was quite used to it. The ELV on the a77 was fantastic! The stuff I read about in the reviews about contrast problems simply did not exist.

There is a person out here that shoots regularly with an a77 and those pix are beyond belief. I just wish I could remember who it was so I could point you to some of his stuff. Maybe he will pipe in here.

Yep. That;s the guy! I just checked it out. Sure says a lot about the a77. I wish I had kept some of my test photos that I took. They were just as sharp but mine were of garbage cans and moving car and other stupid stuff.

My a580 does well in low light but the a77 beats it all to hell. Sony just keeps getting better and netter and better. I think they have to since the flat screen tv market is in the toilet.
